Calling all trampoline experts! Quick question ....

Hello there - just a quickie for all you trampoline experts. I have just got a bonus from work and want to buy my boys a trampoline - done a bit of a search and got completely bogged down with the choice!!!
Basically should I go with the safety net at the edge of the jumping mat and not outside the pads (which some places claim is safer), or go with the mat outside the pads (as some places claim that you lose jumping space and say the other type is cheaper)?
The kids will always be watched when jumping cos they have a tendancy to fight anyway (!), but I want to be as safe as these things get. Any advice? Many thanks ... Suzie

I have thought that the inside the mat ones look safer, but ours is outside the mat and we haven't had any problems (to date, had it a year).
Not an expert though, just a satisfied buyer

Hi

A lot depends on how thick the pads are that cover the springs/frame. If you buy an expensive one (like super tramp) you will be okay with the net outside. If you buy a cheapie (like us ie. argos - then a net inside is safer as the mats are really not that thick and the frame is hard !

However whichever one you get, always always supervise. My son has had an 8ft since he was two and loves it so much he even bounces in the rain

Best of luck

I shall watch this thread with interest as I am wanting to get a trampoline for my 3 children aged 6.8, 3 and 18mths although the youngest is a bit young for it I think.

Shoshable · 03/07/2007 09:01

Have a 10ft which we will replace next year as it is now 5 years old (am a CM) and we have the one that is inside the edges, it was the only one thay did then, and we have had no problems with it. (I am going to tepmt fate here and tell you we have had no accidents with it yet)

Whoooosh · 03/07/2007 09:11

We went for this one due to safety and it looks a lot neater than some of the others.
Not cheap but definitely worth every penny.

ChasingSquirrels · 03/07/2007 10:23

bigknockersbigknickers - we got our last may, ds1 is now 4.9y and ds2 is 17mo - they BOTH love it. Your 18mo is not too young!

NannyL · 03/07/2007 14:33

both of the families where i work for have a big tp trampoline

they are great and the nets are outside the pads... the work fine

there is no way we could bonce through the net thing as it goes right under...

i have tried hard to see how far i can get my leg down... i have tried very hard to see if / how much i could hurt msyelf and i honestly dont think i could damage myself on it cause the nets are great

i dod wonder if a small child actually sort of bouced off the edge if they could break their leg / ankle sort of down the side but im sure i couldnt!

suziegirl · 03/07/2007 18:04

Thanks for all the advice - just got to decide on the size with hubby - I think 10ft is enough - he wants to go bigger - 12ft .. wonder what that says about him .....! Oh well, thanks again!

Whoosh - what makes the jumppod safer? (might be a stupid question sorry) - we are trying to decide between a jumppod and a TP with net.

morningpaper · 03/07/2007 18:21

We've dug ous into the ground
I think the pics are still in my profile
it's GREAT

hippipotami · 03/07/2007 18:37

MP - I love your dug-in one, and the tunnel is fab too, ds wants to come and play!

We have one with the net outside the pad. It is not a problem. The padded bit is quite thick and the net is tied on so tight it is impossible to fall between the edge and the net.
We have had ours 18 months now (dc are 7 and 4) and so far no problems.

(In fact, I was only remarking yesterday to a friend of mine that it was the best money we ever spent on the dc!)

ChasingSquirrels · 03/07/2007 18:45

have to say - get the biggest you can a) afford and b) fit comfortably

amidaiwish · 03/07/2007 19:06

we have this one TP 8ft and have found it brilliant, def the best "toy" we have as they bounce on it for hours.

18m def not too young - my youngest has been on it since we bought it, a year ago!

snowwonder · 03/07/2007 20:57

i cant wait for my trampoline to arrive although have to move shed etc to fit it inot the garden first!!!!

we have bought a rectangle one as dd prefers them to the round as she goes to lessons....

i just cant wait for it to arrive so they have something to play with in our tiny garden

SoupDragon · 03/07/2007 21:00

Good prices hereand B&Q have a good priced 12' one at the moment.

I ordered a 14'one from the first link on Sunday but cancelled it as I chickened out about the size! Can't decide whether togo with it or a 12' one...

ChasingSquirrels · 03/07/2007 21:04

have you got room for the 14ft Soupy? measure it out with a hose pipe and put garden chairs etc on the perimeter to give an idea of size. if you have room then go for it

SoupDragon · 03/07/2007 21:29

Oh there's certainly room but the garden isn'tlevel so I@d need to level it.Which is why a smaller one looks attractive!

ChasingSquirrels · 03/07/2007 21:31

ah, you said that on the other thread - dig it in! Have you seen morningpapers (I think) pics of hers?

Whooosh · 04/07/2007 09:53

Sorry Millarkie-only just seen your question.
The net is secured very well all around the inside of the padding and is also fairly taught as you can seee from the pictures. It actually pushes the child back onto the trampoline rather than just "catching" them.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2007 11:59

I'm certainly not digging a 14' hole!!

Millarkie · 04/07/2007 18:18

Thanks Whooosh - I haven't seen any in real life and it's hard to tell the difference on the websites.
