totally girly question - Baby Annabel or Baby Chou Chou?

OK, the time has come to let one of these monstrosities into our house . Dd1 asked for a baby annabel last birthday (but was unlucky!). She still wants one but is now undecided between Chou chou or annabel.

I hear that annabel is harder to turn off - is that true? If it is that will be the clincher. Any advice welcome!

We have baby abigail, cost about the same but IMO looked better than annabel or chou chou. She was fairly easy to switch off, untill recently when she lost her on-off switch and went off randomly. I have fixed her now so she doesnt startle me as much at night anymore.

my dd has annabel, she quite a nice doll, all her face moves - have no experience with Chou Chou

enid · 05/09/2004 08:43

theres so many of them! abigail, annabel, benjamin, chou chou and the one that goes in the bath - we should have a mumsnet guide

DD has Annabel and adores here
.

Very easy to turn off (version 2 anyway) - has an on/off switch on her back, hidden under the cloth.

enid · 05/09/2004 10:24

next problem is that dd2 (2) will want one too - god, do I have to give in and buy two of them??

Dd loves her Chou chou. We bought it on the instructions of dp's dad, who researched them and said Chou chou was the best because she's less girly and even appeals to little boys (and she does - several friends' sons have enjoyed plating with her).

Very easy to switch off.

The vote goes to Baby Annabell here. We gave other dolls to dd but only BA cut the mustard. Dd now wants a bathable Baby Born to replace/add to her current Baby Born. Sigh.....

PamT · 05/09/2004 15:12

I got the silent Chou Chou - am I a mean mummy? (About £15 cheaper and not nearly as annoying as the Annabell that my friend bought for her daughter)

Gingerbear · 06/09/2004 09:28

DD secided that Baby Annabel didn't have enough hair. Anyone know how to remove biro from a dolly's head?

Welshmum · 06/09/2004 10:06

I'm a bit confused, our baby Annabelle doesn't have a switch, she doesn't do anything apart from entertain dd a lot.

Gingerbear · 06/09/2004 10:14

Welshmum, did you buy the £15 or £40 version? We are cheapskates in our house and DD got the 'my first baby Annabel' which doesn't sing or tapdance.

Welshmum · 06/09/2004 11:48

Ah-ha.... and there was me thinking there was only one baby Annabelle and there are hundreds out there. DD's Annabelle was a present and she seems quite happy with her at the moment so I'll stick.

JoJoo · 06/09/2004 21:58

We've got My First Baby Annabel for my 18 mth old and the matching all singing, all dancing big Annabel for my 4 year old. I didn't think it was a prob to turn off, until the other night when the kids were at my parents for the night and all of a sudden, in the middle of the night, it started manic laughing...spooky! It wouldn't switch off either so we had to put it in another room with a cushion over it. Other than that I would highly recommend it, my kids have had great pleasure with their Annabels.

daisy1999 · 06/09/2004 22:20

I wouldn't mind which one I got as long as she was healthy, I hate designer babies, we should all be happy with what we're given

Polgara2 · 06/09/2004 22:57

Well dd1 has got both Chou Chou and Annabel (not bought at the same time I might add or both by me!!) Annabel is the winner and is very easy to switch off as everyone says. Oh and my mother did buy both dds an Annabel - very expensive Xmas but did get them with a discount for buying 2 at boots!!

Aero · 06/09/2004 23:19

We like Annabelle because she can wear short sleeves and the soft body part doesn't show as she has more 'flesh'!! Also all other stated reasons. We bought her in a sale for £17 just before the newer model was released. Has been loved dearly ever since.

mazzymcg · 07/09/2004 21:01

Dd had baby Annabel for Xmas when she was 18months and has adored her ever since - she's now 6! Annabel goes to bed with her everynight and she loves her more than all her other dolls put together. Incidentally she hardly ever turns her on!

enid · 07/09/2004 21:04

daisy

I think I am resigned to buying 2 matching Annabels this Christmas.

I started, so I'll finish .

Well, my mum gave dd2 Baby Annabel at the weekend so decision made. I have to say that dd2 (nearly 2) is chuffed to bits with her baby and is tending to her every whim with love and kindness .

We did take her on a walk in her buggy yesterday - dd2 got tired of pushing her so we left her by the hedge in the buggy and carried on - on the way back we could hear her crying, we ran back and poor Baby Annabel was crying her head off, abandoned and alone.

Dd1 isnt convinced by Annabel and still covets Chou chou as you can rock her to sleep apparently.

My dd also loves Annabel..but again she hardly ever turns her on and seems a bit horrifed when she actually makes a sound. I probably would have been better to buy a nicer doll that doesn't do anything.
