Twiglett my friend's washer/drier exploded a few weeks ago and she said that it got a lot of use more than having separate ones...so would get 2 separate ones myself....our w/m lasted 8 years and was used more than once a day and tumble drier only when raining..and t/d was just over £100 so not too expensive.

if you've got the room get 2 seperate ones. combined ones are very touchy about weight and balance of the clothes. i've had to get a combined one due to lack of space and dh insisted we got extended warranty on it so if you must make sure you extend warranty

separate even

I guess if you've found a washer-dryer good then why not go for that again to save space?

I've only ever had separate but friends have always told me that washer-dryers are crap at drying. I've only experienced them in holiday cottages and have always found washer-dryers rubbish compared to my dryer but maybe it was just a crap make?

Since buying a separate condenser dryer, I've found that I don't need to do nearly as much ironing - a lot of stuff comes out fairly crease free, which wasn't the case when I had a washer/dryer. I can also get the washing and drying done much more quickly with the two machines on the go. I LOVE my dryer - how sad am I?

Twiglett, if you've got the space, go for a separate dryer - bloomin' brilliant they are!

Allegra · 04/09/2004 18:37

I've had both and I would definitely go for separate machines. The combined took longer to dry and I was always having to wait to put a second wash in. I like to do 3 or 4 washes a day a couple of times a week so I need to be able to wash and dry at the same time. I suppose if you never do more than one wash a day a combination would do.

ernest · 05/09/2004 18:45

definitely separate - you can wash while you're drying, plus do bigger washes. plus life span better in sep. machines they're more reliable

daisy1999 · 05/09/2004 18:52

If you have room get separate. You can do both at the same time, there's less to go wrong, and you don't have to fish around to remove all the things that would go in the drier.

I'm SOOOOO looking forward to my washer/dryer going kerrput as I hate the thing and would never have one again. The dryer takes a billion years to dry anything by which time it's crumpled to an unrecognisable mess.

SEPARATE! SEPARATE! SEPARATE!.

2GB-which make dryer have you got? (how sad am I?!!)

webmum · 05/09/2004 20:56

Which have recently done a survey on washer dryers, and they said that the results are nowhere near those of the separate machines, especially in terms of cleaning I think, they also said clothes were much more creased than in separate washerdryers.

I really wanted one and don't ahve the space for two, so it really put me off, I might wait a couple of years until we redo teh kitchen and try and get a space for a separate dryer then..
