Just a small gift up to about £15 for a someone I work with, she has no children and is quite high maintenance but lovely with it. I normally buy her some scented candles but have not got time to go to TKMaxx and pick something up.

It's always lovely to receive a book; it always implies that the sender has put thought into it - and there's always that lovely message you can put in the fly-leaf.

lovely luxe tights / a good book or two / fab fun jewellry?

slinkee · 30/06/2007 23:36

voucher for a manicure?

bellabelly · 01/07/2007 00:04

Beautiful bouquet of flowers?

Some truly fab gourmet chocolates?

Pre children, I was always mesmerised by the beautiful stationery at big department stores (like Liberty). Museums and bookstores sometimes have a good selection too.

twinsetandpearls · 01/07/2007 00:34

book might be a good idea, that is what she tends to get me, love the idea of gourmet chocolate although I don't think you can get that up here! No large department stores, will probably need online with quick delivery.

Maybe a fab arty coffee table type book? That's my usual cop out with my brother. Is she arty at all?

Oh crikey now the pressure's on.... errrmmmm....

PeachesMcLean · 01/07/2007 00:47

I have to say I'm not very au fait with the latest publications!!! Brother seemed to enjoy:

  • Bizarre little book by David Shrigley (v curious little cartoons)
  • Banksy's book - extremely thought provoking and fab quote on the back from the Metropolitan police....
  • I was very entertained by "Boring Postcards" but maybe that's just me...
PeachesMcLean · 01/07/2007 00:49

Or something more traditional? If there's an art exhibition she's particularly enjoyed of late, than maybe the gallery has an exhibition catalogue you can sometimes get online.

twinsetandpearls · 01/07/2007 00:50

Before you mentioned books I was looking at the Goddess guide

twinsetandpearls · 01/07/2007 00:52

ooh the Dvaid Shrigley postcards will appeal

Ooooh, beautiful cover on the Goddess Guide, I love that. Contents are a bit girly for me but I'm not your high maintenance friend and it does sound quite classy. Could be a goer?

twinsetandpearls · 01/07/2007 01:00

I am now looking at evil thoughts and am very tempted.

One for her and one for me, have not decided which book is for whom though!
