Lets talk highchairs....

For dd we sent over £100 on the m&p's prima pappa rocker...pile of sh1t....A nightmare to put up each feed, constantly trapping fingers etc, A NIGHTMARE to clean...
YET it was sturdy, comfyand has done dd well for 2 years.

Now we are at the stage of looking at weaning ds and theres no way I am going through another 2 battle with dd's highchair..I have well and truly fallen out with it.

So suggestions please..I don't want to spend in excess of £50 as I think I learnt my lesson there YET I want one thats sturdy and quite padded....Also compact if possible.

Mothercare's own is what my mum has for dd BUT tbh I never found it very "snug" till dd was around 18 months, prior to that it seemed like she would fall out of it. BUT this is the type I can see for the price we want to pay..

like this

Suggestions welcome. TIA. xx

we have the ikea one and 2 tripp trapps ( no longer high chairs tho)
they are both fab
you don't really need a heavily padded one - how long will your ds be spending in there? the cushions are a faff

katelyle · 29/06/2007 22:42

Trip traps are brilliant for practicing musical instruments too - wonderful for posture!

katelyle · 29/06/2007 22:45

There's one listed on ebay at the mo - can't do links I'm afraid, but it'sstill got 6 days to go. Might be worth watching.

shhhh · 29/06/2007 22:45

thing is Mrsbadger it cant simply be placed into the other room..it has to be STORED away neatly... God I have got a problem...

Just feel that the padded ones offer more support..not necessarily that ds will be spending an age in there BUT just feel maybe it may stop him falling out lol..!!??

And you don't have to put them away 0 they just tuck under the table like the other dining chairs.

thanks kate..just looking at one now that has 2 days left..will watch it..just wonder about storage again with it though. I understand it can fit under a table BUT not got space under a table iykwim..all taken up with chairs!

Highchairs in The Guardian

My current highchair is like a wooden version of the antilop (sorry car boot find - think it was from the USA originally) I agress the footprint is very very small and it stands neatly beside the dining table and doesn't get in the way at all. Also the seat is so compact it makes it very safe as the sides are supportive etc.

CarGirl · 30/06/2007 12:13

Also to add the Luca/cafe junior has a smaller seat than the mothercare one (I think) and the tray is adjustable to again a more snug fit. HTH

just off to read the report now..thanks katelyle & mnp. x

she has def been trawling these threads for ideas as the ikea antelope and trip trapp are always reco mentded here !

bookthief · 30/06/2007 23:21

The antilop is great. I bought one for my parents and am now that we have the huge and many-creviced Chicco Whatever. Unfortunately it was a present from dh's aunt so I'm stuck with it.

You can remove the legs/tray from the antilop quite easily for storage and ds (7mo)seems very stable and comfy in it. We use the inflatable cushion at the moment but his older cousin (16mo) also uses it and can't get out or tip it in any way.

i've got one of those cosatto fold up highchairs you linked to on your original

always found it fab...though did have to call firebrigade to get DD1 out of it once as she was trapped

but apart from that have been very happy with it. it's great that it can just fold flat and slide down the side of a cupboard totally out of the way.

I love the thought of Annalisa Barbieri being a mumnsnetter! I think she must have the best job in the world. Apart from the fishing. i couldn't do the fishing!
