Tot Bots - How many do I need to buy?

Hi everyone, I'm making my first foray into the world of reusable nappies and enjoying using a totbots with a poplino wrap on 10 month old ds. Ds currently uses 4 or5 disposables a day. I can wash everyday and have a washer/drier so I'm wondering if I could get away with maybe 12. Or maybe I'd be better off getting a few extra so as not to make life more difficult than necessary.

So what was your experience? All advice gratefully received!

I only ordered 12 totsbots for my newborn (and was later told I was being hopelessly optimistic!), but I've been washing every night, or even every other night occasionally and haven't run out at all recently. I do use disposables occasionally when we go out and find that I have to change her nappy much less frequently with the tots bots. I must say I'm a bit worried about the winter though as I don't have a drier (and they eat electricity) and they won't dry so fast then - I was thinking of getting a few emergency traditional terries.

I got 18 reusables, which was what I'd been recommended. DS doesn't wear them for the 3 days a week that he's at nursery, except for evenings & overnight of those days. I find I wash them once a week (using a tumble drier if the weather is up to it's usual standard!).

I have 16 and wash every 2 days and ususally have 2 or 3 still clean...I've been considering getting 2 extra and could wash every 3 days.I wash at night and dry immediately when I wake up (cheaper electricity!)

I think I have 14 and am going to order some more as in the next few months I will have two in them, although I hope ds will be out of them before long. If you contact the Nappy Lady she has a Questionnaire you can fill in and she will advise from your answers. I will recommend fleece liners.

Joe1- I had 2 in them with 16 nappies- washed every night and never had a problem... Yes agree with fleece liners- they are fab !

Tissy · 06/08/2002 15:55

Yep- we've got 16 for a 6 mo old dd and wash every other night. Fleece liners are marvellous- suggest you buy or borrow one, then get yourself half a metre of fleece from John Lewis and cut out a dozen more for next to nothing! They don't need hemming, and who cares if they're lilac?(JL didn't have any white fleece the day I went in!)

Tissy · 06/08/2002 15:58

PS at 10 months you may be between sizes, so if you haven't already, go for Size 2 then you won't need to buy any more (although you will probably need bigger wraps eventually!)

pupuce · 06/08/2002 16:15

Size 2 from 6 weeks to 2 years old for my 2 kids-no problem!

Joe1 · 06/08/2002 16:47

I was thinking I could get away with just a couple more, but will have to buy a tumble dryer my washer dryer is naff. I only have size 2 so newborn will have huge nappies for a while

Thank you all for getting back to me so quickly. I think I'll go for 14. And thanks for the fleece liner tip, Tissy, I'll definitely be doing that. I'll have to check our electricity tariffs too, Pupuce, I wouldn't have thought of that.
