What are your 6yr old girls into these days????

DS1 has been invited to the 6th birthday party of one of the girls in his class and he really wants to go - BUT I have no idea what 6yr old girls like to play with/do as I only have boys - need ideas that cost no more than £10....PLEASE

My dd turned six recently and she liked the following presents from her party:

Craft sets - all sorts
"Secret diary" type thing, with pens/stickers included
My Scene doll
Real China tea set

Meant to add, craft sets are a safe bet IMO

£10? That's extremely generous, I never spend more than five on party presents.

DD is five and a half and I think anything sparkly goes down well, or one of those craft sets like 'make a fairy from a peg' in bookshops, or even a book?

Stationery sets - usually cost around £5/6 or just buy bits and pieces (little notebooks, 'pretty' pencils, stamps, stickers, postcards etc)

Galt do craft kits for about £6 - make your bracelet etc type stuff

My dd wouldn't really appreciate a voucher yet - she would prefer something there and then.

Stationery very VERY popular in this house. My dd has about 500 notebooks, but her eyes still light up when she gets a new one.

emkana - same here! We are ankle deep in little messages, drawing, stories etc.

Not sure about the Claire's voucher - good idea for maybe 8 or older?

ooo lots of lovely ideas here - usual budget is about £5 but he's good friends with this girl (he's got a birthday party the week before for a boy in his class - who'll get up to £5 spent on him as they're not really that close)

my 6yo DD loves reading, esp Horrid Henry books & Famous Five ( i knwo , Enid Blyton not very pc but she doesnt care)

she hates barbie tat (me too)

That is the point though, Cod, you have to get them back for all the craft kits they've given you

except pens and papery things and hama beads

I can highly recommend the Galt mini stationary set in a metal tin - 9.99 most toyshops/smiths do it

Agree about craft kits. At 6, they still need a good deal of parental involvement....and it can be no fun.

Besides lots and lots of books, DD's favourite presents were a few board games (Monopoly Jr was best), a magic kit, and a Tamagotchi.

avoid pink plastic - some girls have really grown out of this by now

Yes, dd also loved a variation on a pinboard - hers has magnets.

She also really likes pretty hairbands/hairclips/necklaces - Monsoon has some great ones. With some birthday money, she chose some Barbie perfume for girls (not too obnoxious smelling) that she is very pleased with.

oh yes, hama beads are great, mine love those. Our windows are adorned with various designs though they get stuck in the sashes.

There are lots of those invivible pens around too, a dairy set might be fun
