Really Lovely Christmas Stockings?

Pls. don't shoot me... Gothicmama's thread got me thinking, if we have Xmas at home this year (finally!!), I'd like to get some just wonderfully lovely stockings for the kids. Not twee Christmasy or plain, I want something simply gorgeous. But not costing the earth, of course. Bearkins is the closest I can find online to what I was thinking of... is there somewhere else you all can recommend?

If I don't start thinking about it now, I'll never get organised in time, LOL...

Really lovely stockings are, cutting up all the baby blankets, vests, any memorable material and making a patchwork one. Saves you storing bags of baby clothes and a wonderful keepsake

They're lovely Zebra. My Mum made some for my DSs last year. She volunteered and I had the idea to make them and do the tops with cross stitch. Obviously I didn't get round to doing the cross stitch but she made the stockings. they were some rather rude and un-pc jokes around that they looked like the stockings you might wear if you had to wear surgical shoes with a built up heel..... She says she is going to alter them for this year but I'm not holding my breath.....

Mine have some really nice ones from Accessorize- they're a bit more velvety than the ones on your link, but very nice and hardwearing!

BooMama · 01/09/2004 22:07

Don't blame you for thinking about it now, Zebra. I don't really like to start thinking about Christmas till at least mid November but you have to start early if you're looking for something really special! When ds was a baby we bought him a beautiful red velvet stocking with a funky looking white appliqued reindeer on. Very cool. It was from Jerry's Home Store but they seem to have closed down now. Tried to find something similar last year for dd but to no avail. Didn't compromise with something we weren't as keen on as she was only 9 months old and didn't really miss it. Have to get one for this year so my eyes are peeled already. Would even buy from overseas if I saw the right one. I want their stockings to be childhood heirlooms like mine was!

I like FF's idea

Patchwork sounds really nice, the nicest idea, really, but when would I find the time? (Alas). (She says, as DD tries to shoot (ie, poke) DS with a screwdriver...)

try market stalls - i got ds a lovely one from durham market a couple of years ago - its navy with a snowy village scene on one side and plain on the other. I did a tapestry 'ds's first christmas' thing to sew on the plain side. I think it was about £2!!

Fairyfly · 03/09/2004 18:42

Zebra, i will make it, start my own business, i actually make wall hangings sometimes using that idea, with little pictures scanned on material inbetween the patterns. Think i should advertise?

zebra · 03/09/2004 18:48

Not a bad idea FF (maybe this is wine talking). Could U seriously, if I sent you material?

My wine? Oh no i am not drunk! I could yes if you wanted me to, it would be a pleasure

hoxtonchick · 03/09/2004 19:10

I got ds a gorgeous woolly striped one from Accesorize last year. I suppose it's a bit like a scarf really. Half price as well.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2004 19:17

I made DSs big read sacks for their first Christmases. DS1 (5) has a felt appliqued reindeer on his and DS2 (3) has a headless snowman. one day I'll finish it...

OMG. Tommy, I;m killing myself laughing at your posting, and DH thinks I've gone mad!

zebra · 03/09/2004 21:05

I still have mine from childhood - mum made us all one out of felt and then decorated the fronts with a Christmasy symbol with our names at the top. I made one for dd out of fleece for her first Christmas (much harder wearing than the felt!) with her name...never got around to any other decorations on it yet.......the idea of making one out of scraps of baby's clothes is a lovely one, I'm sure they'd be best sellers!!

Tommy · 03/09/2004 22:36

Why thank you pot pourri...we aim to please

blossomhill · 03/09/2004 22:40

The Disney store do lovely ones

CountessDracula · 03/09/2004 23:19

FF do you do sort of counterpane things made of bits of baby clothes? I would love one for dd's bed when she goes into one!

Fairyfly · 05/09/2004 16:40

I can do CD, takes a while though, the ones i have made have been more to hang off a pole.
