I would love this.

I love the idea of sitting down to bathe. But presumably you'd have to treat the wood every couple of minutes if it was to last.

What do you think are the chances of dh agreeing to spend over three grand for this?

I think that is quite reasonable - don't know if I like the idea of a wooden bath though. Splinters in the bum is not my idea of luxury!!!! I prefer showers though.

hippipotami · 26/06/2007 16:53

wow gorgeous, but would be worried about maintaining the wood!

Very very smart!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/06/2007 16:54

I think it looks horribly uncomfortable and will date worse than a pair of Crocs.

NannyL · 26/06/2007 16:55

sorry but i hate it!

lulumama · 26/06/2007 16:55

no, would never give up being able to lie down and stretch out in the bath

style over substance i think!

beautiful but looks like hard work !

hana · 26/06/2007 18:21

called an 'ofuro'
I love this style of bath, really relaxing - most of these baths in Japan have water heaters, so the water never goes cold (bliss!)

ktmoomoo · 26/06/2007 18:22

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh i want one

paulaplumpbottom · 26/06/2007 18:22

You wouldn't be able bathe together

ernest · 26/06/2007 18:42

looks like a posh, minimalist expensive granny bath

moondog · 26/06/2007 18:43

Twill split and date and look and feel slimy.
Avert yer eyes.

Gingerbear · 26/06/2007 18:45

green slimy mould.
A bugger to clean

But looks lovely.

A house we considered buying had one of these sunk into the floor of a wetroom, so you could shower first and then soak. The British owners had lived in Japan for 5y. When they returned to UK they extended their house specifically so that they would be able to install a Japanese bath.

He said that they could bath as a family (parents plus 2 or 3 children), even though the bath looked small. It needed a boiler of its own, separate to the rest of the house's central heating, in order to fill the bath.

I'd love one, but enamel, not wood. I used an enamel one years ago in France. Because of the depth of te water, and the bench to sit on, you don't need to stretch out to relax completely.

Ah well. I'll just scrape the mould off my Mira and make do.

I think you'd end up with a stripey arse.
