Draught-proofing front doors

Has anyone got any ideas how we can draught-proof our front door. There are visible gaps around the doorway and that sticky tape stuff, from DIY stores, is absolutely useless. Does anyone know of a door specialist company that might be able to fix this problem? Thanks.

You can get bristle/brush strips that may work better than foam or get thicker foam strips or you get plastic-rubbery type ones. Also, try to put an excluder over your letter box as that can let in a lot of draughts, you get ones specially designed for them, the bristle/brush type. Not sure about specialist company but a handy-man/builder should be able to fit some decent draught-proofing. If the gaps are really big, then you need to nail/screw on some thin wood to narrow the gap but may need to refit your locks if they are affected. Alternatively a good heavy curtain is brilliant. Or a new door, properly fitted. Just a few ideas as I come from a very wind-swept place. Here's what B & Q have on offer - insulation

Goodness what a boring life I lead. Just another thought is getting a joiner to rehang your existing door and bulking out one side of the frame with a strip of wood so that the door gets pushed over, iyswim.

There are other forms of door insulation, efmach - the best one for you might be the V-strip type, which opens up to fill wider gaps, IYSWIM. (Always takes me ages to work out which bit to stick it on and which way the opening should face though.)

There are thicker foam ones too. The packets say on them what size gap they are for.

Thank you all for your advice.
