Anyone got a Baby Tad ???

nutcracker · 30/08/2004 21:09

Has anyone got one of these ??? The big soft one, not the little hard bodied one.

It says from 9mths but does anyone think it's suitable for a 2 yr old ???
Was thinking of getting one for my Ds's 2nd birthday to help him with his shape recognition.

My Dd had one but for some reasons (can't remember why) we chucked it out.
It looks a bit different to hers though, which used to play nursery ryhmes (twinkle twinkle little star was one i think), and go through the shapes.

We have a baby tad which plays songs, does shapes etc, is that the one you mean? Would be fine for a 2 year old imo, I think it's a bit old for a 9m old.

It's a frog Yorkiegirl that has shapes on it's belly, it sings and helps you learn the shapes.

Yep thats it Lou, looks like i will now qualify for super saver delivery after all

Yorkiegirl - Didn't mean to imply that you don't already know your shapes

Oh my God my 3.3 dd got hers out today co-incidentally for the first time in about a year and played with it for a while (although a lot of it involved collecting him from nursery ), so we have got a lot of wear out of it. So yes a 2 year old could still enjoy it to sing along to the songs and be smug when they've got the shape right. But beware - I'd forgotten how irritating Baby Tad can be with his loud American voice (no offence meant cos I haven't got anything against US accents, just Baby Tad's!). And he used to go on in the middle of the night sometimes which was very very creepy....

nutcracker · 30/08/2004 21:25

Yes i do remember that from Dd's one Monkeygirl
Seem to remember we had to remove it from her room at night.

Oh well thats another pressie sorted, this being organised is starting to scare me

My dd, over 2 1/2 yr now, still loves her. Got it when she was 1, but she's more interested in it now than she was back then. i think it's because she can sing along with the rhymes. Great toy. I do think most manufaturers state a suitable age for their products which has no relation to real life. just to get us into buying lots of toys and the poor kids don't know what to do with them when they're so young.

Lisa78 · 30/08/2004 21:48

I want one!!! Where can I buy one? It sounds an essential bit of kit to me

KateandtheGirls · 30/08/2004 21:58

My girls love Baby Tad. At almost 5 my oldest still plays with it occasionally and sings along to the songs.

KateandtheGirls · 30/08/2004 22:00

Baby Tad at Amazon

Also have to say that we have a number of Leap Frog products and they're all great.

AussieSim · 30/08/2004 22:01

My 19mth old loves his Baby Tad which he has had since 11 mths. It lives in his bed mostly. He turns on the lullabies himself these days. When he was younger I used it a lot to settle him to sleep. He likes the kissy button on its cheek the most. I reckon it it fine for a 2 year old. I haven't really focussed on the shape thing that much yet although I think now he can push the buttons a lot better he is getting more interested. I am waiting till DS is a bit older to buy other Leapfrog products.

nutcracker · 30/08/2004 22:21

Hmmm the one i want is the one thats on Amazon but by the looks of it it's no longer made as I can't find it for sale anywhere else (except ebay).

The new one is called Hug and Learn baby tad, but i'm not sure if it is the same thing.

KateandtheGirls · 30/08/2004 22:23

This is the one we have. It's probably 3 or 4 years old.

nutcracker · 30/08/2004 22:28

Yeah thats it.

O.k so if i buy of Amazon am i getting it brand new and boxed ????
Am abit confused with the new and used thing.

I think so Nutcracker, if you click on "add to shopping basket".

Branster · 30/08/2004 22:32

don't know why it's so difficult to find. remember mil bought it and had problems finding it then. Try the sites for: The entertainer, ToysRUs, Mothercare, Daisy and Tom, is there a LeapFrog website??

nutcracker · 30/08/2004 22:33

It's just that when you click on which ones it has new and used the one for the price stated says it's new but not in box.

Sorry i'm making it confusing now aren't I.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 30/08/2004 22:34

Yeah i've been on the website but they only have the new one, which i don't want, unless it is more or less exactly the same.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 30/08/2004 22:36

I think i'll go in to the ELC shop and try out the new one.

Toys r us don't have the old one either

Ds2 loves his baby tad, but we hide it because it makes me want to attack it with a hammer.

nutcracker · 30/08/2004 23:52

LOL Lou, i'm sure i will regret after hearing it over and over again

dd1 had one. i sold it last year at a car boot sale as i hated it!! the voice annoyed me, and when the batteries were running low it used to go off randomly in the middle of the night and scare me sh*tless. dd2 however didnt like it. they now prefer baby einstein thank goodness.
