dressing nre born babies

what did / do you dress your new born in

when i had dd she had fancy day suits that went mainly over her head and she hated them screamed loads every time - so this time i'm thinking of putting new baby in pretty sleep suits or is this just laziness on my part

OP posts:
AuntyQuated · 30/08/2004 14:09

mine were in sleepsuits until they were a few months old

suzywong · 30/08/2004 14:10

sleep suits until they start to move

nothing lazy in that

But then I had two boys and you may be tempted by all the lovely girly clohtes around, I know I was from time to time and it doesn't seem to have done them any harm

JanH · 30/08/2004 14:12

Sleepsuits all day (nighties at night if they went to sleep at a relevant time, otherwise the sleepsuits stayed on all night too).

SenoraPostrophe · 30/08/2004 14:15

yup, sleepsuits all day.

But pretty dresses with v loose elastic, or lots of buttons work too. And you can always "recycle" them as doll clothes later.

daisy1999 · 30/08/2004 14:25

another vote for sleepsuits. I put them in plain sleepsuits on a night and fancy ones in the daytime to make me feel better. They're easier than dresses and far more comfortable for the baby.

Clayhead · 30/08/2004 14:37

Totally agree, sleepsuits are great. Comfy for them and easy to get them in and out.

MadameButterfly · 30/08/2004 14:38

I used sleepsuita for DD for the first couple of week. Whwn my mum and aunt came down I dressed her in the little outfits I had been given as we were going out visiting some of mums friends

daisy1999 · 30/08/2004 14:40

I always think they are lovely and cuddly in sleepsuits too.

Hulababy · 30/08/2004 14:54

In the house DD wore sleep suits or day suits most of the time. If going out she also got to wear pretty dresses, etc. that had been bought for her.

motherinferior · 30/08/2004 14:58

Coloured sleepsuits over coloured vests. For ages. Especially dd1 as she just wore her male cousin's newborn clothes for about her first year. Can't see the point in dresses till they can walk, to be honest, you just see their nappies all the time before that.

wellsie · 30/08/2004 15:09

Always sleepsuits unless people were visiting. Used to think I was a bad mummy for doing this as all the other mums had lots of lovely little outfits for their babes but IMO they seemed so uncomfortable for a newborn, sleepsuits were easy for both DS and me!

albert · 30/08/2004 16:09

Yep, another vote for sleepsuits here!

Ixel · 30/08/2004 16:11

Sleepsuits. If she needs to 'dress up', get those frilly pinafore things that go over the sleepsuit (no cramming over head involved)!

suedonim · 30/08/2004 16:28

Sleep suits. They make babies look and feel like teddy bears, all squishy and cuddly.

Seabird · 30/08/2004 17:08

sleepsuits sleepsuits sleepsuits! Think babies look a bit strange in "real" clothes. IMO DD in her growies (as we call them) always looked so much more comfortable than some of my antenatal group's lot, all trussed up in denim etc. DD now 9 months and am quite looking fwd to winter so she can wear them again at night

Mind you in the beginning it took both dh & I to do up the poppers!

posyhairdresser · 30/08/2004 19:05

jersey dungarees with feet over a jersey bodysuit? As a comprimise? Slightly smarter than a sleepsuit...

bea · 30/08/2004 19:36

ooo! definitely sleepsuits... m and s are the best for fit in my opinion... babies feet always look nicer in an m & s sleepsuit!!! (do i sound a little mad??)

patterned ones for daytime and the lovely white terry towelling ones for bedtime...

i kept mine in sleepsuits for ages!!! i love them and dd was in a sleepsuit at nighttime until she was 2 ... and then i relented and put her in jammies!!! ... but i recently got her an all in one sleepsuit from h and m with tigger all over it and she looks dead cute in it!!! (she's 3 now!) and i recently saw some mini boden ones!!! had to stop myself as i knew i could get them at h and m at a fraction of the price!!!!!

Millie1 · 30/08/2004 22:00

Another vote for sleepsuits ... mine both wore them until at least 12 weeks old - 'real' clothes were too much hassle and only put on for very special occasions. Nothing nicer than a baby in a babygro!!

linnet · 30/08/2004 22:22

Dd2 would wear sleepsuits all day if we weren't going out or sometimes just in her vest, but when we went out I usually put a dress or something on her. but as soon as we got home it came right off again. It was quite hot when she was born in May, probably the best weather we've had all year, so it was more comfortable for her to be in a vest or sleepsuit.

A mum at the school has a baby that is 8 weeks old and he's always in sleepsuits.

eidsvold · 31/08/2004 06:57

baby gros when she first came home (summer) some plain some patterned and then sleepsuits if it was cooler. She had a couple of outfits - one was a denim pinafore - easy to pull up over the babygro...when it was really hot - just her vest.

new babe due Nov - have only got baby gros/sleepsuits for him/her.... too hot otherwise

toddlerbob · 31/08/2004 07:00

I would only do sleepsuits until about 3 months having faffed about with endless cute outfits with ds myself. Save the presents for going out, or swap them for a larger size.

woodpops · 31/08/2004 08:44

After a few weeks of sleepsuits with both ds and dd we got fed up and made the rule sleepsuits are only for bed. We loved getting the cute little outfits. But saying that Next do do some nice 'daytime' type sleepsuits IYKWIM.

fisil · 31/08/2004 08:49

What's the difference between a babygro and a sleepsuit? I thought they were the same thing!

DP was so upset when DS graduated from white babygros! He felt like he was losing his innocent little "maggot" (his term of affection for DS in a white babygro!). So when DP was around, DS was in babygros constantly for c. 3 months!
