Hello,
I need to get a new family car but have no idea what to get - can you help me decide? We have serious 4 x 4's on the farm if needed but I want something that I can keep clean for family use all year round in all weathers, prefer to be a bit higher up as I'm used to it with the 4 x 4's, lots of space in the boot for push chair etc., automatic (I kill gear boxes lol) and not too thirsty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. xxxx

BMW X3/X5, Volvo XC60/XC90?

An estate maybe? In my experience trips to toddlers seem to be followed by phone calls being asked to pick up sheep lick etc. in my car!!

For something a bit less Jeep like, but with a slightly higher driving position than usual, maybe a Ford C-Max?

For something more like the 4x4s you're used to, maybe a Honda CRV?

Thanks for your replys - I'm going to look at a Subaru Outback AWD and a Rangey. God only knows what I'll end up with though lol xxx

Renault Kadjar and Nissan qashqai deal well with country roads and town driving, the Renault captur is slightly smaller and easily fits four adults.

My first choice would probably be a Discovery. If you want something cheap and cheerful a Dacia Duster could work. Good size boot, 4x4 option available (I know you have proper 4x4s but it doesn’t hurt to have the option). Or a Volvo is always a safe bet.

Subaru Outbacks are great cars, but don't give you the higher driving positions. Rangeys and Discos are very much in the "another serious 4x4" category and might also fall into the "money pit" category.
