confused about fitting isofix bases/seats in volvo xc90 - anyone?

ds1 is in a stage 1 britax isofix which dh fitted fine

we want to get a maxi cosi cabrio infant carrier - isofix version - for ds2 (due shortly). we want the maxi cosi as it's compatible with the bugaboo that we already have. according to the maxi cosi website, it's not compatible with our car

so how come ds1's isofix seat works ok? are all isofix systems not the same?

tia

Not sure but we have a Maxicosi Priorifix in our XC90 and it fits fine. Speak to John Lewis as they will help you fit it.

Tutter · 16/06/2007 13:54

is the maxicosi priorifix a stage 0 (i.e. for newborns) seat then?

No it's the next size up but I would have thought that all Maxicosi's Isofix are the same?

Angeliz · 16/06/2007 13:58

We have both those seats in our car at the moment (Ford S-Max). Can't understand how isofix points would be different. Maybe it's more to do with the seats, bucket seats or something?

Tutter · 16/06/2007 14:07

am utterly confused by it all tbh

there are 2 diff isofix bases for use with maxicosi infant carriers - easybase and easyfix - don't understand difference

and now i can't even find the bit on their website that checks compatibility with diff cars

[befuddled]

think i shall have to ask dh to look

I'm trying to look on the website and can't find it either!

Tutter · 16/06/2007 14:18

website has def changed since i checked it the other day - the compatiliblity bit has disappeared

think i may call john lewis or halfords and ask them

thanks

Why don't you go to Halfords? They are evry good and helpful. I bought a second priorfix yesterday and had to sign a disclamier as they didn't fit it. I guess the different bases are to do with the leg the new ones have. Safer but take up so much floor space in the car.

Sunshinemummy · 16/06/2007 14:20

Ridiculous surely that's the most important bit!

Angeliz · 16/06/2007 14:20

crossed posts.
There was a man in Halfords yesterday wanted to buy a second stage car seat for his 12 week old. The guy from Halfords had to tell him about 10 times that he could not use that seat for a young baby and the customer just kept saying, 'oh, he'll fit in there!'

Eejit!

MintyDixCharrington · 16/06/2007 14:22

all isofix systems are the same but it may be that the contours of the seats etc are such that some seats will fit better than others.

I have an xc90 and all the britax isofix seats fit fine, have never tried maxi cosi though. I think you just have to try it in your car, and see if it works

it will probably be fine

nearlythere · 16/06/2007 14:23

usually its a problem with the seat shape- although it may just be that they haven't tested so are ebbing on the side of caution- a trained fitter from JL, halfords etc will be able to help

Tutter · 16/06/2007 14:24

scary, angeliz

Tutter · 16/06/2007 14:25

thanks minty (pph?)

shall take a trip to halfords

i'll be amazed if it doesn't fit, given that we already have one isofix seat in place...

The Volvo dealer will fit it for you, but it'll cost ya!

Sunshinemummy · 16/06/2007 14:31

The website is rubbish. I think I called them last time to ask but that was when we had a BMW.

bagpuss · 16/06/2007 14:51

I think I remember that it may be to do with the base bit. Doesn't it have a sort of leg to it? If your car has under floor storage then they err on the side of caution with seats using this type of base. We have a Ford C-max and it doesn't fit that either.

Tutter · 16/06/2007 16:39

have been to halfords

it fits

volvo told us we'd have to buy the volvo system

oh well

NannyL · 16/06/2007 23:25

Can i suggest its the seat belts that are the problem?

I may be wrong but volvo are renouned for having very short seat belts in the back... too short to strap many stage 0 car seats in...

maybe they are telling you the belts are too short... but if you are using isofix you probably wouldnt have to worry about the seat belt length.

amidaiwish · 17/06/2007 13:25

btw the difference between the easyfix base and the easybase is that the easyfix base is for cars with isofix fittings and the easybase is for cars without isofix fittings.
