I think Perfectly Happy People (PHP, called the babycatalogue.com on the internet???) do one for about £5. The kind you plug in. Don't know if it's exactly what you need though.

I tried a plug in night light which was hopeless - far too dark. Have you thought about a dimmer switch for main light? Have now got dimmers on all our bedroom lights.

Yorkiegirl, when my DDs were little I got a fab one from Woolies, it's just a frosted globe on a round base and I used to put about a 15w bulb in it and leave it on all night...I thought it had gone but I came across it the other day, if you don't find something else send me a CAT and you can have it, it is perfect for what you want.

Or there's one like this , I think GLTC have these too.

JanH · 26/08/2004 22:10

No, it's just a bedside light I think but as I said it was ages ago and I haven't seen one since - it's perfect for a child because the globe doesn't get hot, and it screws into the base so you need big hands to unscrew it and get at the bulb.

I like the one JanH linked to from GLTC (also Urchin I think)

monkeygirl · 27/08/2004 10:45

We have two of the ones JanH has linked to (I think John Lewis do them now too). It's been great for dd1 who is 3.3 as she has it brighter on the nights when she's going through the 'there's monsters in my bedroom' phase and really low when she can control it herself. We now have one in our room as well so that I can check on the baby but also use it as a reading lamp (if I can ever keep my eyes open long enough at night!)

You can get them in mothercare - they are just the ones you plug in and they give off a little glow - bought 2 for a fiver I think last week - with moon and stars on!!

jennifersofia · 27/08/2004 14:16

We have the one that JanH recommends (got from John Lewis for £15 I think - £1.70 from ebay is much better!) we really like it. Doesn't get hot and can go very dim or very bright but doesn't need to be reset each time. Not cute and colourful, but very effective!

I have just bought a lovely one from ikea for 8 pounds. Rechargable battery lasts 6 hours, soft green glow squishy tactile white globe. It looks like a friendly alien!

Gingerbear · 28/08/2004 01:49

can't find it on the website, but it is called SPOKA night light. They had loads in Leeds.

poppyseed · 28/08/2004 09:18

Haven't read all the posts sorry but I can recommend the dawn to dusk night light from mothercare (£8). It gives more light out than those lit plug things but not as much as a full lamp. Fab for our DD (5) and scares all the monsters away.....

janeybops · 29/08/2004 20:23

I have an excellent one from John Lewis. Cost £20 but worth every penny. Can be faded to appropriate light level (from bright enough to read by till very faint indeed) and has separate button for a timed gradual fade till it switches off - takes about 15 mins I think. Fantastic.
