dfs sofas- are they as good as they sound?

i'm fed up with not being able to stretch out on our sofa- the kids have wrecked them and dh wants a chair instead of a sofa for him!

Well i've seen a range in the dfs sale that is perfect, but what i want to know is:

  1. are the sofas good quality?
  2. Do i have to go to a store to buy them or can i do it online/on the phone?
  3. do they turn down credit applications regularly?

I wish i could afford them up front but what with the new kitchen and expanding the business i would only be able to get them on credit at the mo- but i don't want to risk a footprint/refusal if they are notoriously tight at giving credit!

I'd want to go in store and try it out for comfort, build quality and whether it will actually fit in your room.

We have a DFS leather sofa in the kitchen, it is fine. Stitching seems to be holding up fine leather is ageing well. As for how long it will last, I don't know, we've only had ours for 12 months.

Dunno about credit as we paid cash for ours

OrmIrian · 15/06/2007 12:07

Don't know about the credit issue. But we have a leather sofa which is about 5 yrs old and in perfect nick still.

beware the elephant's scrotum look

I am afraid that in my experience - and from what I have heard from others they are not good qaulity. I have read that they are designed to last 2 years only so that you will have to replace them ! We had some from them a few years back and they were apalling - the springs went, the fabric split, and they became uncomfortable very quickly.

I would never buy from them again !

However that said - if you like the design, the price is right and you accept that they will have a limited life - why not ?

Some people like to change their furnitre every few years - maybe DFS suits that way of thinking.

nomdeplume · 15/06/2007 12:12

CD, mine is NOT an ES

CountessDracula · 15/06/2007 12:18

nomdeplume · 15/06/2007 12:19

CountessDracula · 15/06/2007 12:20

CountessDracula · 15/06/2007 12:20

nomdeplume · 15/06/2007 12:23

CountessDracula · 15/06/2007 12:23

CountessDracula · 15/06/2007 12:28

CountessDracula · 15/06/2007 12:30

seriously, show me a style you like and I will find you a second hand one at a quarter of the price

becklespeckledfrog · 15/06/2007 12:30

Not had a leather sofa from DFS before but the fabric one I had was fab! I don't own it anymore but it is still going strong. Replaced it a couple of years ago with a leather one (DH was desparate for one) from Land of Leather - terrible quality although easy to keep clean with kids. It has not lasted at all and is going soon as have bought another fabric one from DFS.
DFS guarantee their fabric sofas (springs and bases etc) for 10 years. If you get their stainguard type thingy on them that is guaranteed for 5 years and with our last sofa it was so good we never had to call them out to clean it.
As for the credit, I am not sure how strict they are about it but that is the option we have taken too. I think its great that they do interest free credit - it means they are not penalising those of us who don't have the money up front!

onetanother · 15/06/2007 12:30

My uncles back fell off his sofa and the leather split and my grandad was treated badly because he didnt want credit he wanted to pay in cash

saralou · 15/06/2007 12:31
  1. my sofa's holding up ok (all the damage is boy related anyway)
  1. we bought ours in store, so don't know..

  2. we got credit and don't have a brilliant rating!

scatterbrain · 15/06/2007 12:58

Ah yes - the guarantee ! Had forgotten about that !

Anyone successfully claimed under it ?

We were refused any assistance - and ours was broken ! They said we had obviously been jumping on it- and our cats had caused the damage - cats damaged springs ??? Hardly

DFS are utter crap - shop elsewhere plesae !!!

becklespeckledfrog · 15/06/2007 14:24

We had them out to repair the stitching on the cushions and found them really good, never had to take advantage of the stainguard guarantee though - they all came off with no problems.

octo · 15/06/2007 14:28

I bought a leather suite 15 months ago and its great - in store were great and so was delivery - I am really pleased
