Best breakdown cover

Hi all,
I have a small 3 door car (that's a 2005) model. It's my first car and I'm insured with admiral. Now, as being quite inexperienced driving and as a female, I did kinda consider getting breakdown cover.

What is the best breakdown cover that you know of? As in cheap, quick to attend call-outs, all the usual breakdown features (e.g. at home start if engine fails to start up, courtesy car etc.)?

Also, what are the essential things I should have in a car with me at all times e.g. sat nav, jump start leads, spare tyre.. anything else?

Thanks :)

We have AutoAid.
I think ours is £44 for the year, and it covers both me and dh, whatever car we are driving, including homestart, and recovery on to wherever you want to go in the Country, should they not be able to repair at the roadside.
They use a massive network of local garages.
We've been with them for years and don't think I've ever waited longer than half an hour and they have been with us within 10 mins on more than one occasion.
We don't have a courtesy car on that cover but I don't think that is typical on RAC or AA either.

Your 'things to keep in car' list is good. If your car has a socket and you can charge your phone, then a charger lead is good (can get little adapters very cheaply for older cars like mine.
The telephone number of your car rescue company.
A bottle of water
In Winter you can add to it with a blanket / coat / spade / small bag of grit.

I like to have an Atlas in mine - partly or when you can't get signal, and partly so you can look at an overview of your route if you are trying to avoid an accident / roadworks and your sat nave tries to take you back to that route.
