Since 1998, DH and I have had "contracts" with above said bunch of t*ers. We decided to terminate our contract with them in April after DH developed a problem with his connection and they dragged their feet getting it sorted. (DH needs his mobile 24/7 for work purposes).

Anyway, we decided to swap over to Orange soon after. Everything hunky-dory and thought no more of it.

Went on holiday on 5 Aug, returning early hours of 21st. That morning (last Sat) going through our post, noticed a letter from Vodafone stating that we owed £222.73 (dated 11 August) and that they MAY transfer it over to Debt Collection Agency if not settled within 7 days.

Obviously we're in France, get home on Sat 21st, then get up on Monday (just gone) to receive a letter from the Debt Collection Agency saying they've taken over and threatening legal action.

Firstly, Vodafone cancelled our account in April and at that point we owed no money (paid by DD monthly).

Secondly, between April and 11 August, we have not received a single phone call/letter from Vodafone stating we owed money.

I have had a massive row on the phone with them today (they are now refusing to speak to me and have told me to contact OFTEL). Rang Debt Collection Agency who said their hands were tied and that they still had to collect the debt.

I am so f*ing p**sed off with VF and I'm am planning to contact OFTEL/Trading Standards and Watchdog if necessary. I have paid the debt just to get the Agency off my back - do not fancy court orders and that shit.

PS Look in Saturday Guardian/Sunday Observer money pages for 'money agony aunt' - may prompt you to make formal written complaint, and if no joy, to get one of the newspapers to take up on your behalf?
