Anyone got one? Would it be good for a heavy child? Don't need it for off roading as such but maybe bumpy pavements, any thoughts?
Oh and how small does it fold?
TIA, M x

Hi All - has anyone got an MX3? Considering this and have a heavy & quite tall child.

Thanks

MrsBadger · 30/06/2007 22:00

We have one on order.
They are not small folded (87x44x58) but no bigger than eg a bugaboo. Quite large to push but steer well and turn in own length.
Also have carrycot so good from birth if you want a proper pram.
Be aware they don't come with all the frills (cosy toes, pram bag, parasol etc) that some others do.

The woman in JL recommended it specifically for the tall or hefty as the seat unit is bigger than many others.

Compare with Mountain Buggy Urban, Mothercare Urban Detour, Jane Slalom Pro.

I have one of these - principally being used for 17 week old baby, but with a toddler seat for my DD. Who is 2.6 and pretty large - weighs getting on for 3 stone (and the baby isn't small either at around 16/17 pounds now I think). So I am pushing around 4 stone of child about and it's actually quite easy - can even manage to push them up the hideously steep hill to the Plunkett rooms (NZ equivalent of health visitor). And can push with one hand only on the pavement with no problems. Good for dodgy terrain too and works on the beach (may not be a factor for you )

as Mrs B says, not small folded but this is mitigated by it being extremely easy to push and turn

MrsBadger · 30/06/2007 22:24

MrsJC I may at some point ask you to help me source the toddler seat as they are not widely available in the UK...

ChorusLine · 30/06/2007 22:30

Thanks Mrs B & Mrs JC

My other choice is a Quinny Speedi - the reason being that they both seem to have wider seats for the bottom area! But there is a biggish price difference!

Wish I could afford a Jane

Thanks both - have a great evening

MrsBadger · 30/06/2007 22:34

happy to help
I'd find somewhere that stocks both and have a push - nothing like trying them in real life to help make your mind up.
The Speedi is 2kg lighter but I have a feeling this'll mean it feels less sturdy.

MrsJohnCusack · 30/06/2007 22:34

oh really? How strange. They're pretty good - quite large and good strong straps for containing cranky 2 year olds
I went to the shop all ready to buy a PHil and Teds and then got in an irrational strop (quite pregnant at that stage) about how NONE of the extras were included with them even though they were pricey. The MX3s + toddler seats were on special offer, so I wonder if they had got a job lot in or something - i.e. the toddler seats aren't always available. will keep my eyes peeled next time I'm in a baby shop to see if they still have them

MrsJohnCusack · 30/06/2007 22:43

if DD is in the actual pram bit she travels in great comfort
she is v.tall and heavy for her age (98th percentile on the UK charts for height, above for weight .....)
so that should give you a guide

ChorusLine · 30/06/2007 22:54

Mrs JC you are convincing me more and more! DS is 20 months and very tall always been 98th%ile for height and weight - plus a size seven shoe!

The other reason I am prefer MX3 is because of the bar across the front - the Speedi looks quite open but a good harness.

Just need to sell my Loola, Chicco x2 & Mamu! Im a bit of a buggy freak!

horsemadgal · 01/07/2007 12:20

Oo replies finally, thank you.
Sounds good.

But I thought the Speedi was 12kg and the MX3 only 9.8kg??
One reason why I disregarded the Speedi.

horsemadgal · 01/07/2007 12:21

Oh and does the MX3 bumper bar remove, anyone know?
M x

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 01/07/2007 12:22

hmm, sites I looked at suggested MX3 was 12kg and Speedi was 10 ish

I may be wrong though, and tbh it's all in the push.

horsemadgal · 01/07/2007 12:40

That 2kg makes all the difference though. Wish I'd kept my powertrack now!!

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 01/07/2007 12:40

yes the bumper bar is removable (you have to take it off to put the toddler seat on, which is how I know)

horsemadgal · 01/07/2007 12:49

Gggrrr to ebay seller who stated weight for MX3 as 9.8kg, though maybe that is with seat removed?
Anyway, John Lewis and Mothercare are saying 12kg and 12.6kg so that must be about right.

Does it feel heavy lifting in and out of car? That is my only worry I think.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 01/07/2007 16:53

actually Maclaren say 9.8kg
but that is without hood, shopping basket or raincover
wonder where John Lewis got 12kg from?

MrsJohnCusack · 01/07/2007 21:40

WEll I've either been very pregnant or suffering with a totally knackered back from hoicking hefty toddler and baby around the place whilst I've had this pram, but it's been fine to get in and out of the car, pretty easy to put up and down as well (although you do need both hands to collapse it)
