Had a new dishwasher for 3 months, seems generally crap rather than defective - can I still complain?

We got a Zanussi bog standard dishwasher from Currys in March - it was a bit of a disappointment as we had to fiddle about for ages with the rinse aid / salt dispenser etc to get a result which was anything remotely resembling clean and sparkly, and that wasn't on every wash, it has always been very hit and miss.

The 30 min cycle resulted in a slightly dissolved Finish tablet at the bottom of the machine, and today even the hottest longest wash didn't dissolve the tablet properly, and there's a milky film on the glasses (we don't use rinse aid as that's in the tablets already).

We should have complained about it before really, but does anyone have any recommendations for the best course of action now? I'm sure the shop will try to fob us off by saying we're not operating it properly and it's too late now anyway.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

should have said we started off using rinse aid etc, then got the 5 in 1 tablets so stopped using it - both methods leave the glasses milky looking.

I have a Siemens top of the range dishwasher and it works brilliantly . Never use the 30 min cycle though, unless it's for rinsing new plates or cutlery. I use Sun products, tablets and separate rinse product. It eats loads and loads of product.

Am not sure how long - surely it is under guarantee still? Give Zanussi a call and ask them to send someone around.

I use rinse aid as well as the tablets as we are in a hard water area. But if the tablet is not dissolved it looks like there is a problem (blockage?).
You need to go back to the manufacturer first for technical advice then Curry's so you have ammunition if they try to fob you off.

Thanks everyone - this has made me phone and register it for its year's free warranty anyway! I'll phone Zanussi next to see if they will come and look at it.

Sounds as though not enough water is getting in. This happens if you plumb in and then ram applicance back against wall - if this could be the case pull out a bit and run and see what happens. This was the cause of my washing machine "going wrong".

Noodle - interesting, thanks, will give that a whirl on its next cycle!
