Shower screen for one of those "new" showerbaths ...

Just wondering if anyone else has one of these? We had a new [MFI] bathroom fitted about a month ago - showerbath with powershower over. The curved screen leaks underneath the seal. We've tried putting silicone along the place where the water leaks to try and stop it, tried directing the flow of water to a different position, standing in different positions (!) and nothing works. We go the installer back to have a look and he basically said that we'd just have to put up with it as it was one of the drawbacks of having a power shower over the bath, and the best thing to do was to put a flannel where the leak was occurring. Tried that, and the water's still going everywhere! Have called MFI back and told them what this installer guy said, they were not impressed with his "advice" and are looking into it.

I just wondered if anyone else had a curved shower screen and if they had experienced any problems with it? If so, are the problems still ongoing or was it sorted?

[Sorry, that was a bit of a long-winded post!]

We have power shower over bath and it does not leak - although it is straight and fixed but that really does not seem at all acceptable.

at this. whats the point on forking out good money for a shower screen if it's just going to go over the floor anyway? I'd try and step it up abit - maybe call MFI head office and DEMAND that someone else comes to have alook at it ASAP as you have spent good money with them and their products don't deliver. - Assuming that MFI fitted it in the first place? If they didn't I'd seek a different fitter's advice.

Still had no response from MFI - I'll give it till tomorrow then call them back.

It's driving me mad - every single morning, after DH's shower and mine, there's a big puddle of water on the floor - even the flaming flannel isn't soaking it up! AAAARgh!

Jura, that sounds similar to what we've got, and it's only the junction where the screen is hinged to the wall that's leaking - it's a tiny space, by my goodness it's creating big problems!

We had one in our last house - was fitted by previous owners We had showerbath, curved screen and power shower. It didn't leak at all so either yours has a design fault or is badly fitted Hope it gets sorted out soon.

we have a glass curved screen on a bath and this works fine, os guessing a fitting fault, get on to mFI!

The shower screen itself is on a silver "baton" type piece material - not sure what it's made of! - and it's the baton bit that's actually fitted to the wall. The leak occurs at the bottom of the showerscreen between the edge of the baton thingy and the seal that goes along the bottom of the showerscreen (the seal is removable). There's a tiny gap between the edge of the baton thingy and where the seal actually starts. When the installer came round last week he put a bit more silicone stuff down it to try and seal that hole up. It's only made it worse though! I don't know if that makes sense to anyone!

I spoke to MFI again this morning, to the guy who took our order, and he's going to have a word with the manufacturers for us. At least they are saying what's happening is not acceptable, so they are "on our side" so to speak! Let's hope this gets sorted out soon - thank god we've not got carpet in the bathroom as it would have been completely ruined by now (and let's just hope that it's not wrecking my lovely laminate either!)

I don't think that would work - the plastic seal is exactly the right shape to fit against the end of the baton, but no matter how hard we try, it just won't fit flush to the baton! MFI are going to get in touch with the manufacturers and send an engineer out!

Bugger. Apparently the man from MFI called the manufacturers and they told him they don't send anyone out any more. I was obviously supposed to use my powers of telepathy to work that out, as the silly sod didn't bother to call me back and tell me. He doesn't know what to do now as he doesn't know where the problem is and how it can be solved () so he might give the company who fitted the screen a call and get them to have a look at it.

Hats off to me, I have to say I managed to control my temper as the man really was infuriating (especially when he said it was "boring" to have to sort this out and that they have sold thousands of these screens and never had a problem with them - it's obviously my fault then!

baaaaaaaaaa

I'd ring their head office and tell them the shanninigans that have gone on, the money you have paid and that you have not got what you paid for. Tell them what the chap on the phone said and say it really isn't good enough. See if that shifts things along.

kando · 19/06/2007 21:42

Yes, I think that will be the next step. It's a bit rubbish really, isn't it?! Boring indeed
