Moisturiser needed for (ahem) older skin.

I am trying to find the moisturiser that will make my skin look like it did twenty years ago. All the advertisements say their product will improve my skin but to me it still looks the same. I have used a number of products in the past few years, the most recent being Olay Regenerist Replenishing Cream. I can't afford really expensive stuff. Is anybody out there using something that doesn't cost the earth and that they think has really made a difference to their skin ?

Or do you think it is all a load of hype and a cheap cream such as Nivea would be just as good as any of the others with their vitamins and peptides etc.

Olay's range seems to have the thumbs-up from most MNers. Not the Regenerist one, the one before that. None of the over the counter ranges have much retinol in them, though.

When you've found the miracle cream please please PLEASE let me know!

The only one that works for my v dry skin is nivea! I have tried various others, Clinique Dramatically Different among others, and none of them worked.

Have used Olay since was 13 - and you know just how young I look!!

My Aunt is a cosmetic lady in selfridges and she uses a Helena Rubenstien one but to me its a huge waste of money - stick to Olay and drink lots and don't go in the sun too much (so dumping your poor kids at the summer camp when on hols and frying at the beach is now out of the question!!)

wow Twinkie, that means you have been using Olay for over 40 years. Well it works, 'cos you don't look a day over 45

I have found a miracle cream but it is eye wateringly expensive.. however it is so worth it and I only use 2 pots a year and so it works out at about 3 quid a week - considering I don't spend anything else on myself - no real social life, hobbies or nice clothes - I think I can justify it!! I am 40 and my skin does look good for my age - I always think it is better to spend money on skin than clothes as you have your skin a lot longer than a pair of expensive shoes!!

However, another one that I do use when feeling skint is Eve Lom which is about 25 pounds and I do think that is good but compared to Creme De la Mer, it does not really stand up... if I had never heard of Creme DLM I would probably still love it!!

FWIW I do think it is worth paying out for expensive creams once you hit my age - really can tell a difference between good stuff and the rest - but that is just me!!

I guess that it's less than helpful of me to say that you should have started moisturising with a suncreen 20 yrs ago

forgot to say -also agree with the drink loads of water idea and try the muslin cloth cleanser by Eve Lom- that made a huge difference to my skin - looks loads smoother...

PS not involved with Eve Lom - just love her stuff!!

I have been told wet nappies are good for the skin as well

have used lots but Johnson's Baby Moisturiser about £2.50 in a 100ml tube is great and does absorb well, Nivea definetely when it eventually sunk in and Olay too..(do believe that peptide stuff is a load of old hype to get you to spend more money really...like people say, keep out of the sun, drinks lots of water and fresh fruit and veg).....laughter lines are very endearing btw)

What you put in and good cleansing are more important than the moisturiser, so drinking masses of water, eating well, not smoking, not drinking too much etc will have the most effect.
Not that I do any of this mind you (apart from not smoking) but I understand the principle .
And always use something with sunscreen in, even in winter.
Eve Lom cleanser is fab and although pricy lasts a long time.
Creme de la Mer is probably the only epxensive cream that really makes a difference but is eye wateringly expensive. Roc stuff is supposed to be quite good but I haven't tried it. I just use things I like the small and feel of.

That'll be the smell rather than the small.

Isn't CDLM about £100?

I look pretty young for my advanced age; water and cleaning your skin out and sunscreen do help, I reckon (I wear a proper facial sunscreen instead of moisturiser in this weather, the Nivea one) but fundamentally I think it's probably genes. DP uses absolutely nothing and looks quite distressingly youthful.

Have you tried Neal's Yard's Frankincense Nourishing Cream? My cousin (40-ish, looks 30!) swears by it and it's all natural plant-based etc etc or Jurlique (Australian cult brand) - again all natural, smells lovely and I think you can get it at Space NK.
