Advice needed on baby sun tents and sunglasses

Has anyone bought/ used a suntent while on holiday with a baby, and also do you think it's worth getting sunglasses for a 6 month old? I can't decide whether it's just a marketing ploy to get me to spend more money or whether these things are really useful.

Also re suntent - do you reckon it could double up as a bed during the night?

cheers!

We were given a sun tent the year before last, all i would say is DON'T DO IT. 8 ppl tried to fold it back up and we threw it away this year while we were clearing out the shed. it was still unfolded.

Wouldn't use it as a bed, although not entirely how you could anyway

There are some pop up travel cots whcich ahve an optional sunshade (Nomad iirc?) so guess that is the nearest option . tbh we found the tent heated up a lot and sunglasses are an unnecessary hassle since they should be in the shade anyway unless you are in snow or sailing where you get glare..

Marketing ploy and waste of time.I've been to lots of places with my kids and never bothered.Even at 2 and 6 they never wear the (cheapo) sunglasses I bought them.

Bramshott · 11/06/2007 14:13

I've got a sort of carrycot thing from Vertbaudet which has a UV hood so it makes its own shade iyswim. Is good for my 3 month old, but might be a bit restrictive for a 6 month old?

Ahhh, that's just the sort of advice I was looking for, Lizs and Musician's Widow. We bought a bulky travel cot on the cheap at an NCT sale and then someone told me you could get pop-up ones like the sun tents, so I wondered about using a sun tent for both beach and bed.

Widow - maybe it depends on the kind of tent you have, but I imagined you could use it for sleeping in the same way as a pop-up cot, just indoors and perhaps with extra padding on the base for comfort.

Great advice gals, I think I'll save my coppers and use a parasol in the sun instead.

thanks to you both!

xx

aaah i see where you were going now. But yeah a giant parasol would be better! And maybe a windbreaker too (they do them in poundstretcher) for more shelter

MrsThierryHenry · 11/06/2007 14:17

You're all splendid, thank you for your thoughts. So glad I can contact MNers about these things, and my dh will be glad not to have to spend any more moolah too. Now, anyone know whether there's a way the MN community can guarantee sunshine and blue skies in Cornwall at the end of the month?

Oh dear too late for me I fear, I just bought a sun tent for DD as we are off to spain. Idea is she can use it as a play tent in the garden this summer.

I did however manage to fold it up by myself last night when DH gave up [smug emoticon].

I love Baby Banz sunglasses. I bought some for my oldest two when they were small and they are now in use with my twins (5mths). I also find they sleep better while out wearing them as they are disturbed by the light less.

Lucycat · 11/06/2007 15:07

oh yes Baby Banz are very cute with a huge floppy Oz stylee wide brimmed hat that is tied on.
