NannyL · 11/06/2007 11:18

OK, here is the list of car seats tested by which this year (they dont test them all... its worth referring to other tests as well) but here are the seats they tested and how they scored:

GROUP 0+ (0-13kg)
Maxi Cosi Cabrio Fix 82 }
Britax Isofit one 79 } 4 recommended
Recaro one 78 }
Maxi Cosi Citi 70 }

Bebe Comfort 69
Phil and Teds 69
Concord ION 67
Jane Matrix 38.... this was the most unsafe (or group 0 tested) and in the artical they comment on how its much less safe when used as a lieflat cot.... and how evaluating the risk of a baby lieing flat, or travelling in a conventional style car seat a child is much safer traveling in a normal car seat

Group 1 (9-18kg)
Maxi Cosi priori fixi 75
Britax Isofit 70
Chicco Isofix 70
Concord trimax 58
Maxi cosi tobi 56
Recaro Young expt 56
Chicco Key IXpus 45

Group 1/2/3 (9-36kg)
Recaro Young sport 56
Chicco Max 3s 20 these seats
Mamas&Papas group 1/2/3 20 are all deamed
Recaro Stat 20 dangerouse &
littleshield... 11 NOT
recommended as
they done offer
enough protection

Group 2/3 (15-36kg)
Britax Evolva 2/3 isofix 77
Maxi cosi Rodi 75
Britax Evolva 2/3 75
Concord lift 72
Cybex Solut 56

(this year new £27k dummies were purchased by Which, these dummies are differnet and better than dummies that have previously been used... and i gues if there are different results its due to these better dummies. the tests they do also exceed the legal tests, and simulate more realistic crashes at higher speeds)

Chicco Key 2 -3 58 / 100
Jane Indy Plus Team (Isofix) 48 / 100 **
Bebe Car Mutibob SP 47 / 100
** commnet about Jane Indy plus in the text... Jane Indy plus uses an isofix base, which is unusual for a group 2 / 3 seat. However, our test show that, because it has no 3rd support its isofix base offers no safetly advantages over non-isofix seats in this group

From last year where different seats were tested:
The mothercare seat that vost about £40 did VERY well for 0 - 13 kg
Maxi cosi Priori scored highly for 9 - 18kg
and in a previosue report to that the Britax Renaisance scored almost as well also
15kg+: Britax Highliner and Britax Kid have scored well
SEATS TO AVOID:
The Graco seat with a back and booster, (from 15kg)(whatever its called)
Britax Cruiser plus (9kg+) these seats
Britax Ranger (9kg+) now fisherprice

  • other that at the moment i cant remember

Thank you, just a quick q as a little unclear are group 123 ones generally to be avoided, are you better off with one for each size (dd coming out of group 0)? Thanks

NannyL · 11/06/2007 11:55

Also important...

they point out the booster cushions are legal but do NOT offer much protection at all and recommend all children under 36kg travel in a seat that DOES protects them in a crash!

OP posts:
NannyL · 11/06/2007 11:56

yes... ultimatley a child is safer if you buy 1 car eat for each size...

the evlova is 'ok' though.... but a child weighing 9 - 18kg could be BETTER protected if traveling in a group 1 car seat, such as a maxi cosi tobi etc

i have searched for a recaro one and can't find such thing. the only thing i can find is the recaro young profi

nappyaddict · 02/07/2007 12:16

is the matrix tested in the lie flat position or the upright position?

NannyL · 02/07/2007 13:08

will find you the link for the crash test video of the jane matrix car seat in lie flat position later...

once yo have seen it you would never ever travel with your baby in the lie flat position again

When tested in the seating positon like a normal group 0 car seat its fine though

OP posts:
NannyL · 02/07/2007 13:14

here is the link "look here to see whyyou NEVER want to use a jane matrix car seat lieing flat"

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 02/07/2007 13:15

so is the 38 score in the lie flat position or the normal seated position?

also you know the 3 recommended isofix ones are they tested whilst just using a seat belt as well?

NannyL · 02/07/2007 15:39

i dont know for sure cause they dont explain very well

but i do know when tested about 5 years ago it did very well as a normal car seat..... and it quite clearly does NOT do well when used in carry cot mode

(of course that was before isofit seats were made)
