Our Seat Leon is dying and we need a new car. Middle sized, air con, largish boot, not too pricey but reliable. Am quite tempted to test drive a Kia Ceed - has anyone tried one? Would you recommend your car?

Didn't want to leave your thread unanswered...we haven't got a middle sized car - got a Mondeo, but it is really good at holding all the baby stuff when travelling to my parents and very reliable so far...

We are thinking of getting a second car for me and I'm looking along lines of a Ford Focus as its done very well in the reliability tests and its pretty reasonable space wise....you may want to look at those?

One tip for you though - always check your car seats are compatible with the car you are buying and take buggy with you on the test drive to see how it fits in the boot!!

Thanks you two...was feeling really quite rejected . Have looked at Mondeo on the web site, but hadn't thought of Picasso - off to research now. I hate buying cars - so uninteresting but need to get something next week!

We had an Astra as a company car, and it was great. It wasn't exciting but it was totally reliable, never had a thing go wrong in 3yrs/80K miles. It coped with everything the Scottish weather could throw at it and we were quite when it went back for exchange.

Taxi drivers buy the Skoda Octavia, it's a v reliable car. Our local taxi man had one for his business then sold it on and it's still around the area, with 300,000miles on the clock and has had no major 'surgery'!

Thanks Sue. have looked at the Astra online and am nagging DP to do a test drive. Test drove a Skoda a couple of years ago and wasn't so keen. The Kia has a 7 yr warrenty whixh is rather tempting & is good value....so I'm sure there must be a catch!

If you can afford it, the VW touran is fab and the boot converts to two extra seats if you should need them.
I'm about to buy a Chrysler PT Cruiser, which is mid-sized, and also looks very individual.

flowertot · 11/06/2007 19:48

Ford Focus supposed to be one of the best middle sized car around. Cheap parts etc too

MadMazza · 11/06/2007 19:59

I agree with Waswondering. I have a Picasso. Bought it new 3+ years ago and it has been really reliable. My children have treated it with little respect and yet it cleans up brilliantly!! I have carried four adult passengers in it comfortably. There are loads of good deals around on Picassos at the moment. There is also a new seven seat version available but I think it is quite a bit more expensive....

We have a Kia Rio which is almost 3 years old. Not driven the Ceed but can highly recommend Kia generally.

We have not had any problems with our Rio at all. Though inclusive in the price was a full 3 year warranty and 3 year RAC Europe cover. Also our warranty is about to expire and we have had the option to extend it for another 2 year for about £350 - bargain.

Size wise it seems with Kia you get alot for your money compared to say a Ford or other makes of car. We have a huge boot, room for 3 adults in back and dh is VERY tall and room for him too.

chocolateshoes · 11/06/2007 20:22

Thanks...I really want to test drive the Kia Ceed and am winning in my persuaion of DP!

It's worth looking online at Honest John's column in the Daily Telegraph. He seems v well respected. Good luck, car-buying is so tedious!

chocolateshoes · 11/06/2007 20:28

Thanks Sue....wil look now!
