Squeaky brakes

My 7 year old Peugeot 207 has recently got very squeaky brakes! It is not just in the morning when the car is cold, it is all the time. Recent MOT did not flag the brake pads as even an advisory, anyone have any idea what else could be the matter? It was serviced around 5k miles ago

It night be a seized brake caliper?

Get that checked out quickly.

Just had this with my car- mot done in July brake pads not an advisory- and the front pads were worn down to the metal

This happened to me recently. I needed 4 brake pads and a new calliper - it was sticking out and making the noise when it got heated up. Obviously depends on your car but it cost me £320

Could be something as simple as a stone stuck somewhere or it could be pads which may not have been picked up at MOT due to lack of visibility.

Some cars have a small pin that's designed to squeal against the disk when the pads get low.

A garage will be able to do a visual check on the thickness of your brake pads and discs in less than a couple of minutes, if you don't know how to yourself. Worth getting it checked out!

Thanks for the replies. Took it to a garage who said that the pads are fine but the discs have a slight lip. They recommended replacing the discs (and therefore the pads too Confused) but presumably I could wait until the pads are more worn before replacing both?

How much of a lip is a 'slight lip'? Replacing discs and pads is an expensive solution if they're only a little bit worn.

While I can't see your car so don't know what the condition is, if they didn't even mark it as an advisory at MOT time, you'll likely be fine for a few months unless you're doing big miles.

Who knows!!!! I agree it seems an expensive fix when the pads are fine. I will continue to ignore the squeak for a few months and reassess Grin
