Waste of money to change/upgrade?

DH and I are at loggerheads over the motor. Returned to UK after 3yrs overseas driving an automatic car. DH is still overseas and I came home with 2 young DC for school admissions etc. So it's me driving the car we purchased on our return, it's in my name etc.

Long story short, we bought a manual, thinking it'd be easy to transition back, but my god I'm finding it awful after an auto. The gearbox is heavy, my town and the many short trips I make are so stop start in traffic and through right residential roads - it's such hard work that I want to swap the car for an automatic version.

It's a Honda CRV and I like the car, space, etc, I just want to take it back to Honda and get the same age car as an auto.

Auto is more expensive, and I've found a nice model at 3K more than they'll give us for ours. We have the cash, or we could do it on HP, no drama either way. DH feels adamant that we made our bed and so should lie in it, can't go wasting money etc....

Anyway, without his knowledge I test drive the auto today and it was SO much nicer. So much more enjoyable to drive around town.

Now I don't know what to do. I've had it for 9 months and they're offering me 2K less than I paid and I've barely done 4000 miles in it. Should I push them for more for mine? Can I do this behind DH's back and just wait for him to notice the new car?! It's not him that has to drive the manual tank around!!

I guess I'm looking for support that it's ok to change your mind on a big purchase like this.... anyone else done similar?? We've o my ever owned one car before this, and DH very much a 'run it into the ground' type. Urgh.

Honestly?
Unless you are super rich, I can't imagine just chucking away £2K after having a car such a short time and so few miles.
I'm assuming if you are moving countries, settling here again, setting things up again, life will be even more expensive than usual, and throwing away £2k isn't something either dh or I would do without agreeing it first with the other one.
If you are on huge salaries, maybe it works differently.

I sympathise with not wanting to drive a manual tank, but I'd find it hard to justify the 3k extra, plus the interest if it's on HP.

When would you normally change your car? Maybe a compromise where you keep it for now, but swap it quicker than you normally would, maybe balance it out by keeping the next one longer than normal?

Can't you sell the manual privately for more money than trade in prices?
