I want home made ice cream

Would you recommend your ice cream maker? I'm looking at the budget units (not Gaggia) for reasons of space and budget. I know with most you have to pre freeze the bowl - has anyone got the Panasonic one where you put the whole machine in the freezer?
TIA

I will watch this with interest. Would love an ice cream maker.

We have the Kenwood one I think, you just put the bowl in the freezer

it works very well

dp is saying perhaps no it is Russell Hobbs

neither of us can be arsed to go and look

louweasel · 04/06/2007 21:45

Does that mean it's gathering dust at the back of a cupboard somewhere?

I've got a Philips, which is OK but haven't much space in my freezer, so very rarely use it. With the Philips you only put the bowl in, not the whole machine.

No it just means we are lazy arses

it is a Kenwood and we like it

Last summer Tschibo did one for £20 - I didn't buy as dh was very scathing and said we'd never use it, but I wish I had now.

Ours is a Kenwood 1.1l.
Its the 3rd one I've had in about 8 years as they get used a lot! First one was a Kenwood (about £40), then a Rival (about £20-burnt out the motor in less then 2 yrs!)) and now back to a Kenwood again though this one was bought from a friend who was inspired by the ice-cream we fed her but only used the thing twice in 2 years.
Only put the bowl in the freezer, no idea about Panasonic but worth checking size of it as it might be difficult to fit in normal size freezer drawer (which is why I can't have the Kenwood 1.5l)

I can't say we use it loads because we don't, but it has been well worth the purchase price because the results are so exceptionally stonking

we always use it if asked to bring pudding to shared mean for instance, and almost always if people are coming for dinner

FrannyandZooey · 04/06/2007 22:23

shared meal that should say

feetheart · 04/06/2007 22:26

Be warned, the home-made stuff will put you off the shop stuff and make you a serious ice-cream ponce

louweasel · 05/06/2007 20:01

Yes I know - Ive got a panasonic breadmaker and now I'm sniffy about shop bought bread. Being a panasonic fan I wondered if their ice cream maker was as good.
