Drinking cup for 3 year old whe out and about

I've been using anywayup beaker due to the non-spill bit of it but keep seeing threads about prolonged use of these things being bad (for teeth?)

Anyway, it's driving me to push use of normal cup when at home (we do this half of the time) and then a sports type cup (or whatver you good people recommend) when out and about.

Any ideas?

Dogsby · 03/06/2007 20:30

try a normal cup
anwya up cups are for thickos

he is TOO old for those sippy thiongs

GlassSlipper · 03/06/2007 20:34

this is why MN makes me laugh!

OK. anywayup cup is used for milk in morning and at night. No idea how we're going to change that but I am happy to try.

When out at the moment, DD has either a tropicana go bottle or the anywayup cup. The tropicana go is great but works out expensive so I want to buy a bottle/cup thing to put just water in.

Come on guys.....suggestions please

lol welcome back

Enid · 03/06/2007 20:35

ahame

ANYWAY UP CUP

or those monstrosities that you get in woolies with their names on

mine love theirs - they have a kind of straw thing you suck through.

GlassSlipper · 03/06/2007 20:37

lol Enid. Ok, maybe now I have your permission I'll stick with it! Why do people keep saying these sippy cups are bad though? DD will probably need braces anyway as DH and I both did but dont want to make things worse!

DD has a skightly unusual name so I doubt that the ugly cups will be suitable for her.

haev YOu ever tired a sippy cup
fakring hell it turned me inside out trying odrink form it

haarpsichordcarrier · 03/06/2007 21:44

we use those sports bottle thingies for the car. probably will be massive dentist bill for me in the future.
but otherwise three year old can drink from a normal cup, surely? I usually have a straw in my bag JIC.

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 21:46

Ordinary water bottle? I used to carry a sports flask thingy for ds but they go so manky inside the spout bit

now we share an ordinary plastic bottle

GlassSlipper · 03/06/2007 21:47

She can drink from normal cup but she takes after me and is sooooo clumsy that we have an awful lot of spillages.

Maybe I need to just stop faffing, dont I?

what about these? www.lakeland.co.uk/product.aspx/summer/picnic!50498_50497 or these www.lakeland.co.uk/product.aspx/summer/picnic!50543

my 3 year old manages fine with them and they don't leak

UCM · 03/06/2007 21:50

buy a froot shoot - empty it out (this is important) and fill it with water or juice.

SlightlyMadSlug · 03/06/2007 21:54

Use a tropicana go bottle re-filled with water each time. Is what we do (except I will admit tot eh fact that it is actualy a fruit-shoot bottle .

Otherwise Tesco (and I am sure other places) do the Kidz On The Go range which has a good variety of styles of cup to choose from. DTDs (at 6) use one that has a flip up spout. DOn't worry it doesn't look like a 3 year olds cup at all. It is very trendy.

accessorizewithbabysick · 03/06/2007 21:57

GS, using a straw or one of those cups with built in straws is much better, or so I read cos the juice is going to the back of the mouth and bypassing the teeth (which is the problem with sippy cups). I generally use straws at home or anywayup if he's running about, when we go out usually a refilled fruit shoot or a SIGG bottle for summer (but it's not that easy to drink from).
If you can get her to just have water, doesn't matter which cup you use, I've been experimenting on ds - if he's thirsty he'll take what's offered!

Adorabelle · 03/06/2007 21:58

I'm quite happy for dd to use to use any type of beaker/cup/sports top bottle. She
only ever drinks water from it so I don't
see the problem.

If you only give water as a drink then there
is no need to worry about your childs teeth.

GlassSlipper · 04/06/2007 07:34

aha, she has water 90% of the time and juice is normally out of the tropicana bottle or a normal cup so I will stop beinga nitwit and go and worry about something more important.

Thanks everyone
