Is there such a thing and would you buy one?

DS has a britax car seat and the covers are a nightmare to remove and wash.
I have hunted high and low for a waterproof backed cosy toes that would fit into it, with a removable front so it can be used on hot days.
This way any nappy leaks/ milk /juice spillages would just go onto that, which could be easily whipped off and washed.

I can't find one so have drawn up a pattern to make one for myself. I am thinking about adding it to the other handmade baby things I make and wonder if anyone else would find such a thing useful?

Definately especially being waterproof. Have you actually made one up, can I have a pic if you have.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/06/2007 09:34

I haven't made one yet. Just waiting for the fabric and zips I've ordered to arrive!
I'm planning to make it like those pinic blankets, waterproof backed (but thin and flexible material) and soft on the inside.

Put me down for one, oops better ask, what sort of price are you thinking of

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/06/2007 09:38

Lol, no ideas yet.
Probably about £15 - £20 as the backing fabric is quite expensive.
I was thinking of making them to order aswell, so you could choose your fabric/thickness etc.
but shhhh..I don't want to be told off by mnhq if this counts as a 'small business'! lol

Lol, a potential sale before I've even seen if they work!
Does anyone else think this is a good idea, or have you seen one for sale anywhere?

Sorry for butting in here, but do you still wnat the red Mayoral jacket from me?

Fab idea BTW, as long as it doesn't cause a safety issue with the harness.

I went looking for one for Enid not long ago and we posted extensively but I cannot find the sodding thread.

Not a cosytoes as such but a carseat liner. They are huge in the US but haven't caught on over here - there are several patterns available from mainstream places like McCalls etc.

will hunt for thread.

I've seen a piddlepad in one of the kiddy catalogues (GLTC I think). this is only for the bottom area, mean for accidents while potty training, but can be used in car seat, buggy etc. MIght be worth a look at one of those for shaping etc?

Is a very good idea by the way, I know exactly what you mean ablout the covers being a pita to remove.

SlightlyMadSlug · 03/06/2007 16:40

Apparently the covers are an integral part of car-seat asefty and should not be modified or altered in any way during use.

I am assuming you are looking at smething to go on top of hte existing covers - but might be worth looking into the safety considerations.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/06/2007 16:43

I'm sure a cosytoes wouldn't really have any safety implications. I would make them to fit on order.

I will efinitly cover the safety aspects. I kow lot about this already through making baby blankets, bibs and toys.

aha, this was the US link I posted for Enid

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/06/2007 16:46

Thanks Mrs badger
I was thinking far more simple, and that doesn't seem to have a waterproof back?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 03/06/2007 16:51

possibly not, but I think (apart form the canopy) it is quite simple - it's just elasticated to ping over the edges of the seat.
I was trying to demonstrate that there's certainly a US market for them so I don't see why there shouldn't be a UK one.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/06/2007 16:57

Thanks, the link was really helpful.
That's the first similar thing I have seen.
I am definitly thinking more like a cosy toes you have for pushchairs, that threads though the straps.
Glad to know some of you would buy one. Maybe I should apply for the next dragons den? lol
