Why a toddler bed and not a standard single?

jojobingo · 18/08/2004 16:21

Because we don't have much space and so I thought it better to get a small bed and upgarde when we need (at which time I hope we will have escaped Londn and be living in a bigger house!). Am I making a big mistake?

Not at all - I've just never really understood the toddler beds as they seem a bit of a gimmick. However, we've always had enough space for a standard single (DSs both went into mid height loft beds before 3 yo).

Have you tried Ikea? Not sure they do them with drawers though.

Have a look at Argos' range.

Ikea and argos do excelent toddler beds. We bought my dd who will be three in a few weeks a bunkbed from either Argos or Index, only has one raised bed with space underneath to put her toys. It is tented underneath so dd used it as a den! It also comes with a slide which dd loves! It is about the same length as a toddler bed so saves room but has the added advantage of gaving sapce underneath. DD sleeps in the box room with only her books and wardrobe so we are also short of space. She used to have a large bedroom but never slep as she was up all night playing. So now large bedroom is her playroom,

we have the Ikea one and they do different drawers for them - the kind that sit on the floor though, not actually part of the bed. It's a great size if you don't have the room but want a bed!

we got one from debenhams - mid-bed or mid-level i htink (chose in a hurry) with drawers & shelves to go underneath - ds loves it - it's his first nihgt - but i'm paranoid he'll fall out. strangely the instructions in french say don't use for the under 6s, yet in english says beware of under 6s falling out!

argos bed

does anyone have this argos bed - it says 'deluxe' mattress - but doesn't give any details. Want a decent mattress

Ds has the one from the Next directory. To be totally honest it's not a great deal smaller than a single but it is alot lower and the draws underneath are ideal.

I had a nightmare trying to get a bed from great Little Trading Company (needed cot for new baby, was told bed would "definitely" arrive in time.. it never came, no apology, and I was basically told I should be thanking THEM for giving me my money back!). Anyway I got a great bed in the end from Aspace (www.aspace.com I think). It's a pine frame single bed and cost around £280 I think. We added a slide-under bed but I'm fairly sure they also do drawers if you prefer. They have a really good range of beds at reasonable prices and were brilliant at getting ours to me asap (it arrived 3 days later - after the 2 months of messing around by GMTC I found this fantastic!)
