Hybrid?

I'm getting to the point where I will need to think about replacing my current car and a friend has strongly recommended a hybrid. My main commute is around 6 miles, but approximately once a week I do a longer part-motorway drive varying between 60 and 90 miles each way. Would a hybrid make sense? I'm a bit wary of battery replacement costs: how soon might this become an issue if I bought new? I'm thinking about something fairly small as most of my driving is on my own, but just occasionally I need to take passengers.

Friend has a Toyota Yaris and likes it; my current car is a Toyota and likewise I like it, but, as I'm currently discovering with more going wrong with it as it ages, parts are a bit expensive. If a hybrid would make sense, does anyone have any recommendations?

My OH has a hybrid Auris estate a aa work car. No idea on mileage but it’s good to drive - so easy and smooth. A real automatic. Rooms inside overall too but front passenger leg room a bit cramped with an ERF child seat behind it.

FIL very happy with his Honda hybrid.

Any hybrid on the market in the UK should do any journey just as much as a pure petrol car, but using less petrol.

I’ve never heard of anyone having to replace the hybrid battery but it would be fairly expensive.

There’s a reason why all those minicab drivers use Toyota Prius hybrids. They’re very reliable and much cheaper to run.

I wouldn’t worry about buying a hybrid.

We drove in a Prius to the south of France, a decade ago. 90 miles is going to be totally fine. They dip in and out, using no fuel where possible and fuel where it is needed.

Hybrids are brilliant in town.

A friend has a Hyundai Ioniq, great car IMO. Averages about 60mpg no matter how he drives it - he does mostly town miles.

I meant to add: no need to worry about battery problems if buying new. They're designed to last around ten years (many will exceed that), most have a lengthy warranty too.

Has anyone tried/got a Toyota Yaris hybrid? Is it OK?
