Really small grown up sandals

DD2 is desperate for some sandals like mine. The sort where you have a bit down next to your big toe IYSWIM.

Anyway she is nearly 4 but she is tiny so her feet are still only a size 5, maybe a 6 at a push.

Where can I find some sandals for her? All the ones I've seen have the "baby" sandals in much more sensible designs for little feet with lots of straps etc.

you mean a toe post? Birkenstocks style?

they sound pretty unsuitable for tiny feet

LIZS · 30/05/2007 09:58

I have n't found any slides suitabel for preschoolers. dd wants some mini Merrells like mine and they just don't seem to do them (just as well as she'd probably injure herself too) . Crocs do a flipflop to which you can attach a heel strap but they look very silly !!

scatterbrain · 30/05/2007 10:00

Matalan had some fab ones with sparkley bits on - just like Birkies really - £5 - my dd has some groovy pink ones in a size 13 - but they def had smaller sizes.

Mind you - my dd couldn't wear them when tiny - too uncomfortable as Enid says. We stuck with Clarks until last year !

My Charge has birkenstock style sandals with a strap round the back too (not toe post) from mini Boden, she's 3yo & a size 9 however!

Enid · 30/05/2007 10:00

oh flip flops

pikey shops probably do them for kids

scatterbrain · 30/05/2007 10:01

Monsoon have tiny pretty flip-flops ! Monsoon surely not pikey ?

ScottishThistle · 30/05/2007 10:01

Trotters do flip flops! (Hardly pikey!)

Hulababy · 30/05/2007 10:04

Monsoon start small

TBH at just 3yo she may struggle to keep them on though.

Or go for Crocs - very funky on children I think, especially teamed with some \link{http://www.decorateyourfeet.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=1\jibbitz]. Crocs do do other styes, as shown on the crocs website.

Not advocating the use of "grown-up" styles of littlies but its just hard when they are so much smaller than their age. She keeps eyeing up mine (yeah basdically more solid flip flop style) and begging for some. She's got practical shoes for going out and about but these are more so she can feel grown up at home so I'm not too bothered about how easy they are. I just want her to stop pestering. In fact if they are hard to wear then all the better as she will move on to something else so yeah just need some cheap ones really. The monsoon ones don't go small enough though. Perhaps you are right and I should just look for some really really cheap flip flops. Must sell them somewhere round here......

you think it is hard now , wait until you need proper school shoes ! dd is almost 6 and an 8 1/2 D/E !! No sandals to fit anywhere !!

ScottishThistle · 30/05/2007 10:23

Boden birkenstock style sandals atart at a size 22!

My 3yo charge has a pair in silver & loves them!

Enid · 30/05/2007 10:34

the boden ones are crap compared to the original birkies for kdis

badly made IMO even though their shoes usually arent

ScottishThistle · 30/05/2007 10:38

I disagree, they're softer than birkenstocks & much better for children!

Enid · 30/05/2007 10:42

the leather was so soft on ours that they stretched really badly - the straps 'lengthened'

never again

ScottishThistle · 30/05/2007 10:44

Oh well, haven't come across that problem as yet & she's been wearing them almost every day for 6 weeks, so we shall see!

There are lots of cheaper versions around too, NEXT do a similar style also.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 30/05/2007 11:35

Next ones don't go small enough but will check out the boden ones. REally like boden but only tend to buy when they do the £10 off if you spend £30 offers etc. At the moment you seem to have to spend £80 to get any kind of discount.

She'll start school in January so its not far away. School is pretty good about shoes though and we have a gorgeous shoe shop that does pom d'appi and stuff. No flip flop style sandals though.

"lovely mummy. But can I have like yours".

Hmmm.

Birkenstocks only start at 26 anyway. Need 22 or 23.

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 30/05/2007 11:47

Well - you're jyou could always explain that she can't as she is too young !

My dd went through a phase of nagging me for high heeled shoes - she soon understood that they were just for grown-ups though. She is now evangelical about young girls in heels - alwasy makes a point of telling me how they are ruining their feet and are being dangerous as they could fall and break their ankles !

jalopy · 30/05/2007 14:46

Yer, tell her she can't have them.

SofiaAmes · 30/05/2007 14:57

Target in the usa do lovely ones! Look on their website. Maybe you can order them and get someone to send them over for you.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 30/05/2007 15:02

Trouble is we see other kids her age and younger wearing them - its only because she is so small for her age that they don't fit. Even next have some nice ones and if she was the "right" size then they would fit so its a bit mean telling her she can't cos she'd too young (though would take this line on heel!). Oh well will keep looking. Maybe when we go to the seaside I can get some really cheap flip flops in her size which woulde keep her happy.

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 30/05/2007 15:04

It's not mean though - it is a fact - you cannot get them to fit her !

scatterbrain · 30/05/2007 15:05

OK - so she's not too young - but she is too SMALL !

Enid · 30/05/2007 15:14

agree with scatty

But having said that
