We want to buy a dolls house for our dd (very traditional I know but she always makes a beeline for them in other peoples houses and plays for hours). We want to get a wooden one so it will last, maybe one you can 'extend' in the future - I think I saw one of these once, and one oucan get dolls and furniture for seperately - makes good present ideas for uncles & aunties etc. But, of course, we don't want to spend a fortune on it. Any ideas? Thanks

I have a catelogue at home called the 'Dolls House Emporium'which has lots of houses in, as we, like you, are planning on getting one for our oldest daughter when she is three next year. I am at work now but will look it out for a contact number.

we used a different catalogue - can't remember the name just now, but cheaper than DHE above. We bought one in kit form & made it up - much cheaper that way. Will try & get the details but going on hols soon so may have to wait til I get back.
The house we built is a big Georgian 6 roomed one, with large opening (great for 2 dds to play at together) & cost about £100, would have cost over £300 if we had bought similar model already made up.

Grandparents bought 'Pear Tree Cottage' from the Dolls house emporium for dd last Christmas (she was 2). She was a bit young for it then but she loves it now, so although it cost £100 I can see it will have long, long play value. I think its worth getting one of the more traditional ones as they will appeal more as they grow up.

It's worth checking out ebay as they have some really good prices on dolls houses.

You can get a smaller, cheaper version of the ELC dolls house in the Baker Ross catalogue (www.bakerross.co.uk). It costs around £40, including the dolls and furniture.
