Smallest car for 2 tall adults and 2 rear-facing car seats?

We are a 2 car family. DH drives the big car (skoda superb) it's vast, which is useful in many ways, but a nightmare to park or turn around in small spaces. I have a small car and having the flexibility to choose between them has been great.
My car is on it's last legs and we are expecting baby no1 in a few weeks. We tried a Seat Ibiza today, and I was shocked that the car seat (maxi cosi pebble) doesn't fit behind me (5'8") never mind hubby (6'4"). Potentially we're hoping to have a second child soonish, so might end up with two rear-facing seats. In a VW Golf, I've got plenty of space, and DH can squash into the passenger seat, but couldn't comfortably drive with the car seat behind him. I don't even consider a golf to be a small car. Looks like we will either end up with two big cars, or a second car that we can't both drive / all fit into.
I want a car that DH can drive safely with a car seat behind him, and fits my priorities of being easy to park and economical to run. What's the smallest car we can try?

Have you looked at a smaller Skoda, if you like the Superb?

Possibly one of the taller models like a Ford B-Max?

The B-Max is in CarWow's top ten for tall people and their top 10 for fitting car seats.

Were you using the base with the pebble? Because without it will give you more room.

We've got 5'8 me, 6'2 DH and Two rear facing seats (axkid Minikid and Britax Two Way Elite) in a fiesta. It wouldn't be good for long journeys obviously but fine as a second car.

We managed with a Mazda3 but I wouldn’t recommend it. DH is 6 4” and simply could not fit in the seat in front of it. I am 6 1” and could squeeze in but it was excruciatingly uncomfortable.

In what scenarios would you expect dh to be driving the smaller car with the kids in the back? We went for one family car and one small car, whoever had the kids had the big car, the small car had forward facing seats in for short/unexpected journeys.

I’ve got a B-Max! Not massively attractive but fabulous space inside and really lovely to drive. And the slidey doors are amazing! Can definitely recommend it.
