Feeling overwhelmed with how to be prepared and I don't want to go crazy buying everything, but seriously, how do you know what to get? I didn't want to find out the sex of the baby but now I'm feeling that if I knew making some decisions might be easier. And the MIL has told me to expect a large baby based on family history, and scans have been supporting this. Should I not bother buying newborn sizes?? I don't get anymore scans after the 20 week one, I'm now 29 weeks. And I'm due mid August so am worried I'm going to buy things that end up being too warm/unnecessary.
Any advise, practical or just on how to get a grip gratefully received, thanks.

Congratulations! How big is big? My babies were over 9 lb and 10lb they wore 3-6 month size pretty much straight away. If you buy plenty of cheap white/neutral baby grows (without legs) and trousers if it is colder, in newborn and 3-6 you'll be fine. You can exchange any you don't use. People will probably buy you outfits for newborn size as well.

And I dressed both of mine in fairly neutral baby clothes so not knowing the gender didn't matter.

Thanks wearelocal. I think maybe I’ll just get the supermarket packs of vests/sleep suits in different sizes until we know. I’m expecting baby to be 9-10lb

Honestly I regret buying so much! We bought all sorts of outfits to only realise they were pretty irritating and impractical. I have had to put so many items away that have never been used. The main things that I found to buy that got the most use are:
Bibs- lots of them! We had 22 in total and they all got their use!
Babygros- about 15?
Vests- 15
Blankets- we went overboard and ended up with about 6/7 when we only really used/needed about 3- a crocheted one, a thinner one and a thick one
Towels-2
Snowsuit- 1 if a winter baby
Hats-2

Socks and mitts were unnecessary as all newborn babygros have feet in and the majority have mitts attached. (We probably used about 2 pairs of mitts)

We bought sizes in advance and honestly regret wasting time and money stressing on other things.
