Is an Octavia the best car for us?

We need a new car, upgrading from our small city runaround.
We have 2 children in rearfacing seats, need a large boot but the estates all seem to have so much space in the boot but not feel that much roomier in the seats.
Needs to be good on motorway, feel safe, not too huge as we live in a city. Will be our only car.

At the moment we are thinking a used Skoda Octavia. Should we be looking at anything else?

Have a look at the Picasso’s

Octavia sounds like a really good shout actually. The next Skoda up from that is the Superb, which is lovely, but vaaaaast. It's the size of a small country.

Seat Leon ST could also be worth a look. Underneath it's largely the same car as the Octavia, actually, but with Seat-ier styling. Another thought might be the Kia Ceed Sportwagon.

Estate cars will generally have a bigger boot than the equivalent SUV or MPV so I reckon you're on the right lines.

Thank you for your responses. Will definitely look into those suggestions.

We've got a Yeti. Enough space in the back for 3 car seats just & with the false boot out we've never struggled for boot space. Also live in a city & I'd not be without my Yeti!

It’s the epitome of an average car. White goods for people who don’t care about cars. If it were a colour it would be beige. It’ll be fine, nothing more, nothing less.

Sounds fine! Haha

the problem with a conventional car is its generally 'low down' which can be a pain getting children in and out.
An MPV is alot easier

If your going with a conventional car in estate form, the best is the Toyota Avensis 1.8 petrol.
Not only does it come with a 5 year warranty, is bullet proof reliable, will average 38mpg and has a strong residual (re-sale) value.

If you are getting a used car you could look at Skoda Roomster, actually bigger inside than the Yeti, but a smaller car. Very roomy in the back, also has large windows which are great for children to look out.

We had a Skoda superb as a loan car a few weeks ago and we were amazed at the space! Leg room in the back was huge! We've also had a few Octavia's which are good for space too but if I was buying I'd look at the superbs first.
