We use DH's laptop on the plane for the kids to watch films, Ryanair don't have films .

PrincessPeaHead · 18/05/2007 23:54

yes, I've been using them on planes for 8 years! they are fab. I highly recommend any of the ones by Panasonic. I got a good one from John Lewis a couple of months ago. The don't have to be all singing all dancing, just solid, with good screens, and not a really really cheap one which have cooling fans so loud you can't hear the film...

Malaleche · 18/05/2007 23:54

cant take laptop as it's staying behind with DP

DH and DS pissed off all the other bored passengers by laughing really loudly to night in the museum, great in departure lounge too.

We bought a Sony one to use when going to Syria - no problems and watched Phoenix nights until DS created and we had to put Boobahs on instead.....

katierocket · 19/05/2007 21:37

We've got one, can't remember what make sorry but yes we've used it on planes. In fact I originally bought it for a holiday. A lot smaller and lighter than a laptop.

Ladymuck · 19/05/2007 21:38

I would personally recommend one of the 80GB ipod videos. You can rip various DVDs as well as download TV - they're light, have a much longer battery life and they're just the thing when you need to plug junior in for 10 minutes in a queue. No faffing arounf with DVDs, and you can just have one in your handbag.

That said I always leave the downloads to techy dh.

I kept meaning to start this thread too (3 & 1 year old to entertain on an 8 hour flight soonish- yikes )
Keeping it bumped!

Can't recommend any particular makes but these things are lifesavers when travelling with kids! We have a (very old) portable one, which has been used on planes, and (newer) dual screens which clip to headrests in cars, which we have used in hire cars overseas.

Gingerbear · 19/05/2007 22:05

So long as you don't use them during take-off and landing, they are fine to use on plane.

babygrand · 19/05/2007 22:05

Funny peculiar, on an 8 hour flight I'm sure there will be plenty of inflight videos. There's usually one childfriendly film and one cartoon channel running amongst all the other films.

Malaleche · 19/05/2007 23:22

Thanks for all your replies - funnypeculiar and babygrand: my dds are 3.8 yo and 8 mo and i honestly dont think dd1 will be tall enough to see the screens on the plane without getting a crick in her neck, also she'd be happier watching something she knows and loves, dd2 is too little and will just be happy on my lap...i hope...it's only a 3.5 hour flight but about 8 hours travelling in all. I think we'll definately get one...
