Anyone live in London and not have a car? Do I buy a baby seat for the cab ride home? Aren't the seats a tad more complicated than that?

Advice please! Thanks!

You will need an infant carrier, yes. Most are standard fit TBH, although there are the odd car that you have to be a bit more careful with. For example some Volvos have short seatblets and are a PITA re fitting. But on the whole we had veyr little problem using DD's infant seat in a range of cars.

You don't need a baby seat for a cab ride. Check out the law here .

If it is a black cab then you could put the baby in its pram and load that into the cab, put the brake on and hang on!

while its not law for any cab ride... im sure babies leaving hospital in a vehical are required to be in a suitable car seat.

Even if you dont have a car.... surely its possible that the baby may make a car journey at some time in the next year?... i which case they would need a seat.... a legal requirement in and any private car you go in, + would you really risk your babies life? (im sure you wouldnt )

so YES you need a car seat!

We didn't have a car with our first but bought a car seat - britax rockatot

You can always use a minicab firm - some of them will provide a car seat for you

Kiddicare currently has a first stage car seat for £20. Not a make I'd heard of (Team Tex) but might be worth looking into if you don't want to spend a fortune on something you'll only use occasionally. I presume a company like that wouldn't sell a seat that didn't meet British standards etc. but could be wrong.

I don't have a car but we did get a carseat (even though had a homebirth so didn't need it for hospital!). It has been used quite a lot though, would any family ever pick you up? Would you end up getting lifts from other mum friends to go places? If you can find yourself a cheap one they are useful.

Thanks for all your advice and thanks so much for the offer, oops!

My girlfriend is giving me one as a gift, I just found out. It will work with our stroller system, too. So I guess I was worried for nothing.

I'm SURE I'll think of something new to worry about soon, we're 30 weeks now. Ten more to go! woohoo!
