does anybody have one of those things that you can sit your baby in the bath? (a bit like a Bumbo IYKWIM?)

are they any good? or is there something better we should get? thanks

Hi, I picked up a fantastic yellow seat that suctioned onto the bath from a boot sale, for £1!! It gave the babe loads of support but I found that I never really used it. As by the time they could sit they wanted to reach out and splash, and when there was only DS1, myself or DH had to get in as well to play, now I have two, it was just a bit pointless. They move so quickly from the need of a bumbo type seat amd I also felt it got in the way for washing, so you'd take them out of the seat. I have probably struggled to get my £1 worth out of it to be honest, which is probably why it looked so new and unused from the young mum I brought it off at the boot sale!

I just hold dd with my hands and swish her around
she doesn't get long in the bath , is literally a swish as her other 2 siblings are in bath at same time!
I don't think I'd waste my money on a gadget like that

I bought a bath mat from Mothercare and stick that into the bottom of the baby bath -really helps with slippage. Failing that, you could just put a towel at the bottom...gives you a little more traction when holding them in the ba

You shouldn't use those types until your baby can sit firmly unsupported. My one says from 7 months, though I think DS would've been OK from 6. He is 9 months now and until this week we used one of those supports where they recline like they're on a sunbed. We've had to replace it with a "bumbo-type" seat now as he started tipping himself out of it. I think we're talking about the same thing - mine only cost £7 so it'll hardly break the bank. I really like it - DS is a bit nerve-wracking just sitting up - he has a tendency to suddenly dive backwards with no warning!

puffling · 18/05/2007 23:04

Yes butr you won't need it for long. Bumbo's great for hair washing tho'

Twinklemegan · 18/05/2007 23:07

this is what I'm talking about. Is that the kind of thing you mean Umma?

umma · 19/05/2007 14:07

sorry but I couldn't view your link? No picture or text? I think we are both thinking the same thing, something that suctions to your bath, but you say he cant use it till hes older? I guess I will just have to hold him, is this what everybody else does?

Are we talking about
these?

I used one from 5 months with DD with flannels draped over it to cushion it a bit. I still had to hold her up but found it was easier than trying to hold her with nothing at all to stop her from shooting off to the other end of the bath! She was fine sitting in it by herself (attended of course!) from about 6-7 months and it was a bargain, £6 off ebay iirc.

She's 10 months now and although she sits really well on the floor there's no way she can support herself in a bath for more than a few seconds without something to hang on to, so this is still getting plenty of use.

umma · 19/05/2007 17:19

Yep, thats what I was thinking of, thank you!

So you WOULD reccomend getting one, I think I will. x

if you have a bumbo can you use it in the bath?
i put mine in the dishwasher every now and again, it survives, so can't see why not?

UCM · 19/05/2007 17:40

Yes I am interested to find out if you can put a bumbo in the bath.

NappiesGalore · 19/05/2007 17:43

bumbo useles in the bath. i know coz i bought one thinking it was for the bath. and it aint.

i did use one of those seats you linked to, when i foun one. ds3 loved it. theres a fairly short window when its good for them (etween being able to sit up and being more mobile)

amidaiwish · 19/05/2007 17:46

oh well, just a thought
here's one of those seats
here and i have a free

FirstAtForty · 19/05/2007 18:14

I tried the bumbo in the bath - dangerous imo as it floats! So it could easily be unstable and tip over. Might be okay for a quick shower or wash if the bottom of bath is flat enough to keep it stable.

UCM · 19/05/2007 18:29

OK, I looked on the label at the back and it does say not to use in bath. At the moment I use a sort of z thingy for DD, with a towelling cover over it. She loves it and to be honest, it will do her until she can sit up really.

Twinklemegan · 19/05/2007 20:17

Umma, sorry you couldn't view my link - it works for me . Until recently I used a plastic bath support from Mothercare. The baby reclines in it at about a 45% degree angle and it suctions to the bottom of the bath. It was really good until DS became strong enough to bounce it up and down using his legs and tipped himself out .

umma · 19/05/2007 21:52

Don't worry about link, prob just my computer!
