High Chair Recommendations please

Am starting to think about getting a high chair for my little man. I have heard that once they can sit up you shouldn't feed them in the bouncy chair which is where I feed im currently.

I want a high chair that will support him well whilst he is small but is big enough for him when he is older.

I know that I don't want a wooden one but would like one that collapses as I don't have much storage.

Any suggestions please...

I know that you've said that you don't want a wooden one as you don't have much room, however a friend of mine has a plastic/metal one that folds down and it is absolutely huge even when folded!

I have the Tripp Trapp that really doesn't take up much room, my 8 month old is happy in hers as is my 3 1/2 year old who adores hers.

Other than that have you looked at the travel high chairs, though they may not last for when he is older

Tripp Trapp is just the best and can continue to be used forever. I don't call it DS's highchair anymore, it's just his 'chair' so that there's no issue when he gets too big for the baby bit.

I got this one when dd1 was weaning (5 yrs ago) and it was great. We then got a Tesco's own triptrap type chair which dd1 still sits at table in without the bar of course. The linked one now lives up at MIL's house for when we eat up there.

With dd2 she wasn't weaned until 6m so she didn't need to be reclined. We got a wooden one from East coast and it has been fab. It just sits round the table like any of the other chairs.

I would agree that tripp trapps are the best bet as essentially they are just a nice chair..... and the fold up ones are usually MASSIVE!

If you are really strapped for space why not just go for a plastic booster type seat that attaches to a chair - some come with trays too?

Washersaurus · 16/05/2007 19:51

just looked at moomin's link - thats what I was on about

Evening, doll. Bil and sil gave us a high chair - the same one they used for their ds, so I thought it'd be really good.

It's crap.

My recommendations are:

  1. to make sure it's one that the cover fully removes to be able to wash it (ours doesn't. ds1 is nearly 2. That's a lot of spilled meals)

  2. to make sure that the table attachment mechanism is easy to use. Ours is really stiff so is dangerous - you nearly catch his fingers every time you lower it, so we just leave it lowered which is then a PITA for getting him in and out.

  3. if you get one that only does him when he is older and better able to sit, you can easily feed him in a bumbo.

The one we have is I think an old version of this
dsis has one a bit like this which was more useful IMO

HTH

(oh ok I took so long to type that that you've had lots of replies - the one dsis used is like the one Moomin and washersaurus said!)

Another vote here for the TrippTrapp. We don't have much space either - it really is worth looking into

mishw · 16/05/2007 20:00

The other thing with the tripp trapp is that you rchild is at the table with you not with a tray in the way which is also great as when not it use you can tuck it under the table so it takes up less space

Wilkie · 16/05/2007 20:59

Thanks for the replies and information. I'm not convinced about the Tripp Trapp - it is more money than I wanted to spend and I just don't have room for it. We bought a gorgeous Oak dining suite with our wedding gift money with leather chairs so I don't think the one Moomin suggested is viable either.

Grrr - this baby malarky is tricky!

SVAN - like a Tripp Trapp but with a removable tray. I love ours, but it IS expensive (Grandma bought it )

Someone posted this link a couple of days ago - VERY Tripp Trapp but only £35!!!

But if you don't have room for a Tripp Trapp, then you're looking at something that attaches to the table, as most other chairs are just as big if not bigger than the Tripp Trapp. But a word of advice - you won't collapse a 'collapsable' chair between meals, and put it away - it's such a hassle that you'll do what most of us do, and leave it up all the time!

But def agree about getting something with a completely washable and removable chair cover. They get so filthy!

Gilly73 · 17/05/2007 16:06

I've seen the comments about Tripp Trapp chairs. Has anyone got the Baby Dan equivalent. It seems to do the same thing but is approx £30 cheaper.
