ooooh, with solid custard and cream and that lovely icing with the chocolate that has been flicked into a pattern......

twiggy describe wedding cake please

Twiglett · 17/05/2007 06:53

sorry ... we got married in Florence so had rather an Italian feast for our wedding .. we didn't actually choose the cake nor some of the little extras like a huge parmesan and strong wine on reception (we did choose the menu though)

it was just a creamy, delicate 1 layer cake with 2 strawberries placed as intertwining hearts on the top and rounded off the 5 course meal perfectly

(can't stand rich fruit cakes personally)

Twiglett · 17/05/2007 06:54

with sweet flaky pastry in between the creamy deliciousness (kind of a cake / pudding thing)

the sponge is good, but the choc has a v waxy texture. it is trated so taht it doesnt melt, i think.

they are v over priced, imo.

Twiglett - was it in some kind of palazzo overlooking florence and at the top of some really steep mountain roads (steep if you're on a 60pax coach anyway!)

I had choccywoccydoodah cakesfor my dt's christening - they put pink and white marshmallows and lollipops on dd's white chocolate cake, and blue and white marshmallows/lollipops on ds's. I froze half of it, and it still tasted good 12m+ later. I agree the chocolate was a bit "waxy", but the sponge was fab. They looked amazing.

no escape .. we got married in the town hall itself and took over a wonderful restaurant just off the main square .. it was lovely

DaddyCool · 17/05/2007 15:53

I had one!! 600 quid and that was just for a smallish one. It was the most amazing cake i had and ever will see and people were still talking about it years after the wedding.

amazing and worth the money.

funnypeculiar · 17/05/2007 15:54

We had to transport THREE choccywoccydodah cakes from central London to the Lakes for a friend's wedding. Got it there fine (including 3 days overnight at my mums) and they dropped one carrying it into the venue

It was fine.
Our chocolate one (made by local cakemaker) was nicer, imho...

DaddyCool · 17/05/2007 15:56

my father in law had to drive all the way to brighton to pick it up.

this was seven years ago. What an amazing cake. We had to go for a 'taste test' before buying.

It was dark chocolate all over and we specifically asked for OTT covering (cherubs, flowers, leaves... everything)

ArtichokeTagine · 17/05/2007 15:58

I had one for my 21st. Looked stunning but tasted quite dry. Great talking point but not great taste.

PestoMonster · 17/05/2007 16:00

I got one for dd1's 4th b'day and for DH's 40th. They cost me about £30-£40 and dds was especially wicked, it had 30 lollipops in the top for everyone at her party!!

Dh didn't get lollipops on his.. lol

ScaryHairy · 17/05/2007 16:02

I should add, since I had my cake years ago my brother got married. He and his wife got a local chocolate shop to make up a white chocolate cake and then put real flowers on it. It was simple and stunning and the cake tasted lovely, perhaps a bit better than mine. Theirs was lighter and a bit more chocolatey. I think maybe their cake didn't need to be as heavy as it wasn't supporting so much chocolate decoration.

my friend had rodin's 'the kiss' from this lot. i think it was a reject so she got it super cheap and we all had a right laugh at it.
