Please choose a fridge-freezer for me!

We desperately need a new fridge-freezer. I've looked online and in Which reports but am completely paralysed by the available options.

The ones that come top of the Which list are Miele and a couple of others, but they're all in the £700 bracket. All the major makes seem to have options ranging from £300+ up to 700-800, and I'm blowed if I can see the difference.

Please someone talk me through choosing a fridge/freezer. The only criteria are: Nice and big, and freezer must be frost-free.

TIA

I know it's not very exciting, but please... [pathetic face emoticon]

Ok - so do you want a 50 / 50 fridge freezer or more fridge than freezer or vice versa ??

fannyannie · 16/05/2007 12:50

We've got a Daewoo FridgeFreezer which we bought early last year - can't remember the model number though - but it was under £300 and we've had no trouble with it - nice and big too.

frogs · 16/05/2007 16:09

50-50 I think. Fridge on top.

We've just bought this beko one . Bigger than average, but not American style..it cost £350 plus delivery and it fits loads of stuff, and its frost free.

I have a Fisher & Paykel and adore it. What sort of budget do you have as they are about £800 but are huge! They also do wonderful drawer dishwashers which I want when we move house!!

QueenofBleach · 16/05/2007 16:17

No good then unless you fancy a trip to Dorset

frogs · 16/05/2007 16:19

Well this is my dilemma. I suppose I could spend up to £700 if I was convinced it was £300-worth better than a £399 one. But they all look the same to me, apart from minor differences wrt arrangement of shelves etc. Confused

lol, I fear trip to dorset would cancel out savings on the fridge! But thanks for the offer.

They ARE all the same . I had this problem for ages, so much so that I even bought a little tiny fridge to bide the time before I could make my mind up!
Eventually I found one by accident, reduced due to a couple of dents in the side at my local independant electrical place (big shop ususally dearer than comet etc.)
It's a miele and I love it...it's so pretty, the shelves have little patterns on them, I mean it has a small freezer on top and it isn't even frost free, which were NOT in my criteria! But it was love at first sight, even for £300...my advice is don't try too hard and go by what's on special - if you get a good feeling, go with that.
(God I sound insane )

Ah, so the idea is to go on a mass fridge-blind date in the kitchen dept of John Lewis, and see which one gets your hormones going?

Basically...

bendybus · 16/05/2007 16:43

Hiyya Frogs
I've just been going through the same process! after 2 weeks scouring ebay i've gone for this one...
It's just over £200 (inc delivery).

I would suggest you decide on the size you want (dictated by what space you have), then what proportion you want (I wanted a bit bigger fridge than freezer).

Once you see a make and model number you fancy you can use the Pricerunner website and get the cheapest price for it (remember to factor in delivery cost).

Good luck!

You would be wise to read reviews on Ciao.co.uk or something as well. They are usually pretty good.
UKwhitegoods also has a brilliant website, it's manned by trade and they know all the ins and outs and the best brands.
Quality makes are Miele and supposedly Bosch, there are others, that one the other poster mentioned sounds good too.
Good luck!

flightattendant · 16/05/2007 16:46

Daewoo are very good too - usually cheap as well because Argos found that people don't want a fridge made by a car manufacturer.

Playmobil · 16/05/2007 16:47

we have this www.boots.com/homePage/BootsHome.html absolutely huge and frost free. didn't buy it from boots though, I think John lewis can order most models for you even if they don't have it in store

Playmobil · 16/05/2007 16:48

sorry this model Bosch KDN30X00GB fridge freezer frost free it won't let me link to the webpage

frogs · 16/05/2007 16:49

lol! Would quite like a fridge that would do the school run. Or maybe a car that would keep sarnies cool...

Still not any wiser really, but relieved that others seem to have the same dilemma. My instinct is to go for Miele or Bosch -- I know it's worth paying the extra for a decent make of washing machine or dishwasher, but not sure whether the same is true for a fridge which doesn't really do very much.

Playmobil · 16/05/2007 16:52

try again ... bosch fridge freezer

fannyannie · 16/05/2007 17:10

lol FA - we must be odd then - as we (without even thinking about it) ended up buying a Daewoo washing machine this year - it was only when it was delivered that it dawned on me it was the same make as the Fridge-freezer
