Vacuum Cleaners, which to get from Littlewoods/Kays catalogues?!

I don't have a credit card, can't afford to pay for a new hoover outright at present, but my old one has packed in. I checked out the Which website but none of the ones in the catalogues seem to have been tested!

Ideally I'd like one with good allergen retention as my son may have asthma (it's not certain)and I don't have preferences for upright or cylinder, though I am short on storage space. I will soon have laminate in my living room and hall but the rest of my house is carpet.

Please can someone advise! I am not sure about a Dyson as they don't seem too reliable and I am hopeless at getting things fixed, very busy with a disabled daughter! Thanks in advance.

We have a dyson animal as I am allergic to the dog and two cats we have and although it got panned on which I have found it to be great.

PLease don't buy the red pets hoover whicg gets rave reviews on which (it may be a bosche) as it was worse than useless.

I just bought a new hoover, my dd's are asthmatic, I love it so so much, its the LG 2000 allergy care one from Commet, it has a filter system which prevents dust being pumped back into the air. It works just like the dyson but ten times better - new out this year I paid about £100 for it but I think they do a payment plan, have linked it for you. (it is a bit heavy on the arms though)

have a look here

Thanks for advice so far, but I really think I should get one that's available via one of my catalogues, although I know it limits choice. Any ideas?

I would recommend a Henry if they have one. It's got a very strong suck and will eat the dust like I drink Jacobs Creep.

UCM thanks for your reply - the catalogues stock a couple of Henrys! Do you know what it's like for allergen/dust retention by any chance? And which one do you have anyway?

I am assuming you use it on either carpet and laminate or just carpet. Does it take up much space? Does it hurt your back?

I's really appreciate more info and thanks for replying! xx

It's quite heavy, and I don't know about the dust retention, It goes into a bag which is sealed in the round unit with quite a thick filter, so I assume its ok. I have the red one. Its not the easiest hoover to carry up & down the stairs, but it's by far the best hoover I have ever had (have had dyson etc)and I use it on both laminate & carpet. I have 2 cats and you wouldn't know that.

I'm also looking for a new hoover as our old dyson has finally given up. Prefer cylinder and def with anti allergy filters etc. any more recommendations? Prob wouldn't get a dyson again.
