I've found that the best thing is the nittygritty comb. i've used various lotions with variable success but the nittygritty is the one thing that always does the job

We have all had the little fckers in the lat 6 months, have given up the thought of going to the hairdressers incase they are found and I am the scurge of our local town.

For emergencies treatment e.g. seen in the morning, leaving for school...use Lyclear, it stinks, but it works in 10 mins flat.

For overnight treatment, use Hedrin, although recently one little critter was still found the following day alive and kicking, this might have been my application, although I thought i was an expert by now.

For stopping them in the first place, nitty gritty prevention spray every single day and this has worked.

We also have nitty gritty treatment for getting rid of them, but I have not used it yet.

Also finally one little bottle of shampoo for £8 from the health food shop was fab. Tiny white bottle with green writing, very plain, cannot remember the name, but would use it again. I think it contains hemp seed extract.

Oh and regular conditioning, combing and checking at the first sign of scratching and never ever ever letting DD go to school with hair down.

I hate the little sods

In my (unfortunately extensive) experience, the only thing that works is combing. Cover the hair in conditioner (any sort) to stop the lice running away! Then comb through in sections. And then pick out the eggs with your fingers. Takes ages. Tedious as anything, but it works. You need to keep doing it every other day or so for some time until you're getting an empty comb.

Agree re wearing hair up.

Personally I found the nitty gritty comb useless. It wouldn't go through our hair without snapping it (the hair that is). You'll need a good metal comb.

DD hated the electric comb so that was a waste of money too.

agree - has to be a comb and cheapo conditioner, done every few days -dd has only had it once - I do the combing out every couple of weeks jsut to make sure as well
