Mossie spray for toddlers - is there one suitable?

We are off to Florida next week. DD is 2y 4m. The mossie spray (Jungle Formula) I got today says suitable for over 6 years and shouldn't be used constantly on under 6s.

Anyone know of a safe one for toddlers?

TIA

I used citronella in oil on mine, it worked pretty well.

Hulababy · 06/08/2004 20:44

Where did you get it from?

Gosh, thinking back now...

Iirc I got the citronella from a health foody type place and mixed it with oil myself. Will try and find out more info for you.

Hulababy · 06/08/2004 20:46

Thanks Sorry - but what kind of oil?

There is also this though. It says can be used from 3m onwards.

Just a run of the mill olive oil I think it was.

Cheers again!

This place is doing the citronella essential oil. You then dilute it with a base oil.

lou33 · 06/08/2004 20:51

Oops it says not suitable for kids .

Going into town tomorrow to get something so will go to Boots and see what they have.

Realised at start of week our cases were damaged last year - so have no cases. Have to get them tomorrow too!

Hulababy ask if garlic capsules are okay. I know that my ds twins (2 1/2) have garlic in their food, i.e. pasta sauces, at least 3 times a week and it keeps the midges away. Mossies are just foreign midges and garlic works for that too.

Three times a week is the usual amount if visiting hot countries. (Little buggers don't like the taste I believe. And it doesn't stink!)

Hulababy · 06/08/2004 22:33

Interesting idea ! Not sure if DD would eat them though

Thursday Plantation Walkabout is based on citronella and comes in a lotion or roll-on.

Bioforce Neem spray is based on neem which is like tea tree but stronger/better.

Both work really well against midge and mosquito. both fine for toddlers. both from health shop. i find the spray handier for wriggly toddler!

as far as i knoe jungle formula contains lots of chemicals (their rep. actually recommended that we dont sell it...even though this advise meant he lost sales comission!!)

When we went to FIJI a couple of years ago we got a ladybird thing that you put batteries in and it buzzes like a mozzie preditor I think, anyway it kept them away from us.

You can clip it to clothes or buggy.

No chemicals

From Great little Trading Company. www.gltc.co.uk I think.

Have a great time
