Cheapest SatNav

Am looking at getting a cheapy sat nav for the times I need to drive long distances solo. I am not the best driver, and adding a map to that is a recipe for disaster.

It won't be used often (few times a year) so I don't wanna pay a whole lot of cash for it

Nutty, I plan my routes using a map and then write the major roads on a post it note and stick it to my steering wheel!

I.e.

M6 to J38

A65 to A44 (leeds)

etc

Are you sure you want this, I read only the other day of a girl who drove onto a railway line following the instructions of hers and almost got mowed down by a train

I think, as long as you don't blindly follow them, that they are pretty useful

Mama G.. Tried that and just got myself in a right muddle

I bought a PDA instead of sat nav and use this. Much better as I can also store details of clients addresses, word documents and excel spreadsheets. I have an Acer N35 which I believe you can get off ebay now for around £110 plus the cost of a disc to install your sat nav program (TomTom6 in my case which cost £10). Some of my friends bought the Tomtom sat nav for over £200 and it's not half as good as mine! Just a thought.....

Thanks

I gor a TomTom for £100, and really like it. What I would say is ignore the voice going round a roundabout, but look at the picture instead. As when it says 3rd exit, sometimes it counts the roads as two (one for leaving, one for joining), sometimes it counts the exit into a field or hotel & sometimes it doesn't.
But apart from that I really like it.

Thanks everyone

I don't go to the mainland very often (am in the Channel islands) and it'll be my first time driving on "big" roads lol
