Phil & Ted cocoon - stupid question - how do you use it?

Hiya

Just about to have DC2 and realised I need to figure out how it works with the bassinet/cocoon bit in.

Do people generally line it with something (sheet?)?

Do you use it for naps on its own - like on the sofa or a table or so?

What about putting the cocoon inside the moses basket for naps so transfer is easier?

And um, stupidest of all really, how does it secure inside the buggy? Dont' think I got any instructions on this...?

Cheers!

If you go on kiddicare.com they have a video demo on the phil and teds which I found really helpful.

Hiya, the Sport is the newer model (the one which is 'improved').

Brakes - just step on the curved wire bit by the back wheels, and the whole thing should snap down to stop the buggy. Admittedly mine is stiff and you really need to use some effort to get the thing to go down (or back up again when you're done braking).

Just reading the instructions again -

re the clip on seat and the bar near the head - apparently the bar shouldn't be a problem, provided you unzip the sides to let it recline a bit, and the child is not too big... I guess the idea is that an older/bigger child would not need to recline?

Still not found a way to deal with the hood coming so close to the head of the kid in front

notso - I did think that maybe P&T would assume that an older child wouldn't need to recline - I think the reclining option was to facilitate younger ones...which leads to TheBlonde's question about from what age a baby can use the clip on seat.

I asked for a demo of P&T in Mothercare (pretending I was going to buy it from there) and the saleswoman said the clip on seat is meant to be used from 6 months. She conceded that there is a period between 3-6 months when a baby is too old for the laydown newborn bit, but too young for the clip on seat.

I would think that as long as they can sit up, they can sit in the seat - specially if its partly reclined? I did want to put my 9 week old baby in its but he looked a bit too small and scrunched up so will wait a few weeks. Whick means DD has to sit in the clip on seat for a few weeks, with her head up in the roof!

Thanx for the tips about the swivel wheel Lipsy and brakes. I will have another go with them.

Re buggysnuggle - I think the buggysnuggle.com one is the "iconic" design - it was a bit of a trend setter when it came out (a bit like Phil and Teds ) and I still think it is one of the most funky "cosy toes|" type things on the market. Ours still looks as good as it did 7 years ago - its very warm and snuggly too (though not waterproof of course)

Ours is red with blck/cream sheep and it looks perfect with the red P&T's

Have sorted the swivel wheel now but the brake still doesn't seem to work . The woman in Mothercare couldn't get it to work either...

Another little design fault: the safety instructions for the straps are sown onto the actual straps, which means you can't loosen the straps (unless you cut off the instructions by undoing the stitches, which I've just done) - as the instructions strip won't feed through the plastic clippy thing (if that makes sense).

Nemo2007 · 12/05/2007 14:15

foxcub are you wanting to buy a cocoon in red? I only ask as I was thinking about selling ours as DD2 is now 4mths and prefers to sit in the seat rather than be lying down now.

foxcub · 12/05/2007 14:31

Nemo - I'm not sure about the cocoon - i.e. in terms of how much I would use it. If the baby falls asleep in the buggy I tend to just leave him in it in our hall - whereas I imagine the point of the cocoon would be to be able to take him out and carry him round without waking him? Also he's two months old - I probably would've been more inclined to buy it if he was newborn - so I'd get longer usage.

Did you use your's much?

Nemo2007 · 12/05/2007 14:32

mmm wouldnt bother then as DD2 is 4mths and I dont use it as much now. Think for a newborn or baby in winter then would get more use. For some reason I thought you were expecting...lol

foxcub · 12/05/2007 14:35

No I'm just fat LOL!!

foxcub · 12/05/2007 15:32

oh have just realised why brakes wouldn't work - I had the back wheel attached the wrong way round!

notsolilKel · 12/05/2007 15:49

hmm I guess you could put the younger baby in the clip on seat (in the back) from quite young, esp if it's unzipped/reclined. Maybe just a head support is all that's needed to make it cozier? Then the older kid can ride in the regular buggy seat up front (with hood down!)

unsure what you mean about instructions sewn into straps being a problem. where are you needing to feed it through?

OP posts:
foxcub · 12/05/2007 16:40

If you look at the harness straps...there are shoulder straps, and there lower straps which all clip into the mi-point thingy.

On one of the lower straps there is an "Attention - Instruction" safety notice thing. If you want to lengthen that strap, by feeding through its own plastic clip, you can't because the "Attention - Instruction" label is sewn onto the strap - making it too thick to feed through. I have had to cut the stitches on the "Attention" label and remove it, so I can lengthen the strap, so it will fit around DD.

Dunno if that makes any sense...

Anyway, these are quite cool too, for anyone looking for another type of buggy snuggle yoccoes

notsolilKel · 12/05/2007 17:30

aha Fox gotcha now. The labels are right down at the ends on mine so hadn't gotten to that stage of loosening yet.

I also love these for wrapping up the baby (on colder days) morrck hoodie wraps

sigh - could shop online all day -
