Does anyone have a Phil and Teds and NOT like it?

DS1 is nearly 2,ds2 is 3 weeks old and I've got a Marco Sky buggy which I've used twice and I'm not keen on it.
I only bought it as my car boot is very small,so I'm really limited to what will fit and I'm now in 2 minds whether to get the P&T's and get rid of the Marco Sky.
Must admit I've only heard good things about it,so would like to know the bad points too as I'm sure there must be some-just trying to justify spending out on yet another buggy. Is it really as good as everyone makes out?.

Tia.

no complaints sorry

Wags · 11/05/2007 16:44

I loved mine nearly all the time, in fact in a few weeks time its winging its way to be loved by another MNetter . Only time I went off it was when DS in the back seat spent the whole journey rubbing his hands on the wheels then himself and as I have 2 dogs and do a lot of walking on grass etc I used to worry about dog mess getting on the wheels. Only recently found out you can buy mud guards for them.... doh!

aDad · 11/05/2007 16:46

worth every penny

MrsWeasley · 11/05/2007 16:46

I used one for 2 mindee and didnt like it, sorry.

When have 2 seats in use there is no where to put bags, lunch etc. Little hands and wheels arent a good combination IMHO.

Apatosaurus · 11/05/2007 16:48

Hi,

I do love my P&T but there are some down sides

not v much storage underneath (and hardly any when 2nd childs feet in there). I have the panniers but they make the whole thing wider and frankly look a bit wanky.

Moderately heavy

If you have a small boot you may have to take the wheels off to fit it in, this is easy but a faff.

I have the old style P&T so the back seat it fixed (ie non reclinable) a nuisance when dd2 falls asleep, much head lolling. I think the new P&T's are reclinable but not sure.

Tyres punctured all the sodding time until I filled them up with the green slime stuff.

TBH I really do love this pushchair. I can travel on the bus easily and its a doddle to push. I got mine 2nd hand off e-bay and its still working great (just looks a bit tatty now).

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/05/2007 16:50

correct me if i'm wrong (i've only ever seen the P+T never used one) but does the baby underneath get wet wehn it rains? IIRC the raincover doesn't cover the whole thing. and because the baba is so close to the ground she may get wet??

notsolilKel · 11/05/2007 16:50

no

noonar · 11/05/2007 16:54

the rain cover does cover the whole thing!...but, i never liked putting my youngest in the back. my eldest went in the back, as the baby needs the best seat, imo.

booge · 11/05/2007 16:54

Sold mine as didn't like it, only the front passenger can sleep in comfortable, I found it unstable, little hands on wheels, no shopping basket when being used as a double.

noonar · 11/05/2007 16:56

agree with booge, to some extent esp re hands on wheels- but you can get mud guards, apparently.

but still the best double compared to the rest.

Bubbaloo · 11/05/2007 17:01

Thanks.

I was under the impression that it folded up fairly small with the wheel on-s this not the case?
Is there also any room to hang a changing bag on the handles?

OP posts:
notsolilKel · 11/05/2007 17:08

mud guards prevent the hands-on-wheels problem...

changing bag defo hangs fine on the handlebars (or use two hooks one on each side to string one across). Shopping also can hang from hooks on the handlebars.

IMHO it folds up quite flat! Was pleasantly surprised after months of being spoiled by my tiny 1-seater maclaren - best to try it in your own boot - any good shop will let you give it a go!

good luck x

booge · 11/05/2007 17:08

Hanging a bag on the handle is difficult as it swings onto the baby in the back seat's head.

notsolilKel · 11/05/2007 17:09

depends on the bag I guess.

Hillls · 11/05/2007 17:11

Oh I love mine so does my dd's.

CarGirl · 11/05/2007 17:11

It is the most compact folding 3 wheeler I've had - and I've had many!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your boot would have to be tiny for it not to fit in with the wheels on. It is quite flat etc

hollyandalice · 11/05/2007 17:12

I lurve my P&T and it is so easy to push! I haven't tried it as a double yet (ds is still cooking), but everyone I've met who has one says it is brill! I used to pounce on perfect strangers in shops and ask them about theirs and always got positive reactions! Daisy and Tom were doing a really good offer on it when I bought mine, maybe it's worth checking them out.

Thanks again for the RLT btw !!

booge · 11/05/2007 17:13

Agree it is compact, more than even an umbrella style double.

Pollyanna · 11/05/2007 17:16

I didn't like it. NOt enough room for shopping (didn't like the paniers), whichever child was in the back always protested (in fact dd2 who was the older and heavier of the two refused to go in the back seat). Also didn't find it particularly easy to push. I preferred it when the youngest child could sit up rather than lie flat in the back, but still didn't particularly like it

I much prefer my mountain buggy twin tbh or using sling/pushchair combo.

liquidclocks · 11/05/2007 17:20

It fit easily in the boot of my micra, pushed like a dream, easy to clean... - love it!

Only problem I had was when I was out on a walk I got a puncture and it was hell getting home - now I carry a spare tyre and a pump.

For storage I use a backpack and the pannier bags - easy

CarGirl · 11/05/2007 17:20

the powertwin is great too but much much bigger folded. The new sport version of the P&T has a reclining rear seat so much better for that 4-12 month stage when they nodd off! I had the old Kiwi Explorer bversion after I tried so many other doubles it was fab - very sad to sell it! Side by side is a nightmare around the shops unfortunately

Bubbaloo · 11/05/2007 18:34

The Jane Powertwin doesn't fit in my Fiesta-I've tried it.

Sorry for all the questions, but can the child who sits in the back, see out,or is it just a case of them seeing the oter childs legs dangling?

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 11/05/2007 18:40

They look out sideways and the view in the front is of the chair in front (doesn't sound good but not a prob honestly()
seriously mine have never complained and both seem to like both seats adn we have never had any problems with hands/wheels.
The storeage is not fab, but if you get a bigger buggy which fits 2 children plus shoppping it is generally bigger and bulky to push around, fold up to put in the car etc
i reckon all doubles have drawbacks, you just have to chose the pram with the ones you are less bothered about
The jane powertwin is eeeenormous

ChocolateFace · 11/05/2007 18:48

I agree all doubles have draw backs, and I've used a fair few in my time! The thing I liked least about my P&T was when DD was too old to be lying down flat, but too young to be sitting up. For a few weeks I used my double Mclarren. DS was able to escape by undoing the straps, as the clips are small; (just right for little fingers), which he could never do in the Mclarren.
DS is now big enough not to need a pushcahir, but I can use it as a lovely 3 wheeler, with the seat underneath as a huge shoping basket.
