Periods and swimming

I take my children to swimming lessons, one goes Monday and one on Saturday (due to kinder, their ages and abilities these are the days they're signed up for).

Last term we missed quite a bit, about 40% of the lessons - due to being away on two
Occasions and the other sessions due to me being on my period. But it's quite expensive and if we have to miss a lesson for each child each month I'm on it's just no good. I wasn't going to take them this term (each term is a 10 week term) but apparently I need to inform them or they're automatically reenrolled.

So here's my question - what can I use to go in the pool while on my period? I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea to be honest, I'd rather not take them, but is there anything I can use to stop them missing their lessons?? With my son I could stay out of the water. Any ideas? Menstral cups? Super tampons?

Many thanks!

Just to be clearer my DS is 5 so doesn't need me. My DD is 3 and does need me. And if she sees DS swimming and she's not all hell will break loose 😂

I always use tampons. Do you have to be in the pool with them?

WS12 · 05/04/2018 06:02

I do with my DD but not with DS but my DD will want to, she'll have a paddy LOL

I hate using them , but tampons .

BalloonFlowers · 05/04/2018 06:10

Tampons or cup both fine for swimming with.

WS12 · 05/04/2018 06:14

Right I think I'll do tmapon maybe super tampon and be in and out after the lesson (that's with DD). And with my son maybe I won't go in or if it's the end of my period, maybe tampon!

Not sure I understand the problem- if you use tampons usually, then just carry on. Am I missing something?

Cantchooseaname · 05/04/2018 06:22

It doesn’t have to be super tampon- it’s safest to use whatever is right for your flow at that point. I have awfully heavy periods and have always been fine swimming with tampons. Maybe try using one in the bath to reassure yourself?

NerrSnerr · 05/04/2018 06:29

Just use whatever tampon is needed for your flow.

Onedaylikethi5 · 05/04/2018 06:34

Cups work a treat for swimming, I've even done aqua parks wearing one. Tampons also fine, the swimming pool water isn't going to whoosh up there and stop it from doing it's job (is that why you think you need a huge tampon?!?). Agree with trying in the bath if unsure.

Mercison · 05/04/2018 06:36

I've always swum with tampons. Tbh a tiny leak wouldn't bother me anyway

WS12 · 05/04/2018 07:51

I usually use pads. Yes just worried I'll get out of the water and will have watery blood run down my legs or something awful like that 😢 I've never swam on my period before ever. So will try in the bath first as reassurance thanks for that idea x

And I'll stick to the right size tampon, maybe I was panicking earlier !

I have had watery blood run down my leg in the shower after. Maybe I'm scummy but it didn't bother me at all and noone noticed I'm sure. I did go straight to the loo and change the tampon after.
